there are more events in year 666[edit]

For exampel, the Albi Cathedral in France was destroyed by fire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.52.74.185 (talk) 14:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

666 is for the devil. It is for the unbelievers of Christ Tumise123 (talk) 13:14, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

misconception2[edit]

It is belived that 666 is the number of the devil which is incorrect, the passage reads "and his number is six hunder threescore and six" however a new 2005 translation of the book of revelation clearly shows it to be 616. The translated papyrus was recovered from the rubbish dumps of the city of oxrhynchus in egypt, and deciphered by a palaeographical research team from the university of Birmingham.--Game overman (talk) 19:11, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did the calendar skip out year 666?[edit]

I once remember hearing a story that the Roman Catholic Church, in fear of naming a year 666, skipped it out of their official calendars so that the year following 665 was named 667; much in the same way that buildings in the USA still have no floor between the 12th and the 14th. Is there any truth to this tale or is it another misconception? Kind regards--Calabraxthis (talk) 13:22, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NO! Check the bible. The number of the beast isn't even 666! It was changed purely for aesthetics.____________ You should be careful not to speak so matter of factly about what the KJV Bible or any legitimate translations doesn't say based on cleverly devised fables. The Scripture plainly says that, "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man: and his number is six hundred three score and six." A score is twenty by all standards. Check the etimology of the word. I won't pretend to have some private interpretation of whatever or whoever the vese refers to but know this the entity will not deceive the elect.--- I'm careful to preface this with the disclaimer that, it just seems to me noteworthy, the papacy title is pontifex maximus and the roman numerals corresponding to those letters do equal 666. Could it be that this is the count of his name mentioned, Rev. 13:17?

Whether or not 666 is "really" the number of the beast intended by the author of the Book of Revelation is irrelevant to the interesting question of whether or not the Anno Domini system ever skipped a year, be it 666 or 616, as a result of Biblical interpretation. The answer to that question is simply: nope. Both years came and went as usual.

However, Anno Domini only started in 525 AD, and was not in wide observance in Christendom until around 800, so it's almost moot. No AD years was observed prior to 525 (when the system was devised), so in a sense, all the years before 525 were "skipped". In 500 AD, nobody thought of the current year as "500" any more than people in 100 BC thought of the current year as "100 BC". ± Lenoxus (" *** ") 00:30, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 13 October 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved. It's still an open matter that was brought up, whether the number is actually the primary topic, but there's no consensus here on that, so I'm defaulting to the dab page being at the base title. – The Number of the Beast has more relevance as 666 (number) has more pageviews than the year, similarly to 420. © Tbhotch (en-3). 17:24, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong Support per nom. There is no primary topic for "666". Move disambiguation page to basename. Paintspot Infez (talk) 17:45, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. After reading and engaging in other discussions about 3-digit numbers, I have formed the following opinion. The default WP:PTOPIC for a 3-digit number is the year, because of its importance in the Western calendar. If there is another notable meaning (911 is an example), then the basename should be a DAB page. If the year is not PTOPIC, then nothing is; nothing can replace it.
That is exactly the case here. 666 (number) is distinctly notable; there is no PTOPIC; 666 should be a DAB page, Narky Blert (talk) 18:07, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong support by usage the year has 2,939 views compared to 24,195 for the number, 2,266 for the Aphrodite's Child album, 986 for the band and 268 for the Billy Talent album. The year's article's size is 3,118 compared with 9,147 for the number, 38,698 for the Aphrodite's Child album, 6,179 for the band and 5,076 for the Billy Talent album. The year has 78 watchers compared to 183 for the number and 35 for the Aphrodite's Child album. Number of the Beast has 33,627 views, is 50,133 large and has 508 watchers but its not clear how often that would be searched for with "666" especially since it seems to be a sub topic of the number[[1]]. There are of course more articles listed on the DAB page that could be searched for with "666". I'd also point out the compared with the year's current 2,939 views, 665 only gets 381 and 667 only gets 347. Google searches return entirely results for the number (and by extension Number of the Beast). A site:wikipedia.org 666 returns the number then "Number of the Beast", then the DAB, then 616 (number), then the year. By long term significance the primary topic would clearly be the year if one existed given its always existed and likely the source of all the other meanings including the long forgotten year but the DAB at the base name probably makes sense (as least for now).
