Member of the asteroid belt?[edit]

How can an SSSB with a semi-major axis larger than Jupiter's and that gets as far out as Saturn be considered a member of the asteroid belt(MPC)? --JorisvS (talk) 21:23, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

JPL calls it a centaur. I think it is kind of grandfathered in as an asteroid. -- Kheider (talk) 07:59, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, probably. But I was wondering how the MPC can consider it a main-belt asteroid? Hard to believe that that would have grandfathered in as well; with "asteroid" being rather poorly defined, but "main-belt asteroid/object" being much less vague. --JorisvS (talk) 10:55, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
