No religious favouritism please[edit]

The abbrevation "BC" stands for "Before Christ" which is meaningless to non-Christians. The abbreviation "BCE" is meant to avoid Christian bias, standing for the more secular phrase "Before the Common Era". If Wikipedia wishes to remain impartial, it must choose "BCE" over "BC", and "CE" (Common Era) over "AD" (Anno Domini; Year of Our Lord). --Glengordon01 06:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Emm, no. First of all, it's not the Gregorian calendar's fault that it has become the worldwide standard among other biased calendars. All the other calendar systems, like the Hebrew calendar and Islamic calendar have no such "secular alternative", and if they did it would not be Wikipedia's call to use them over the original notations. Second of all, the only way Wikipedia could remain impartial is by not using any calendar whatsoever, because using a calendar that divides time by the then-supposed birthdate of Jesus is certainly not impartial, even if euphemisms like "BCE" are used. Until Wikipedia uses euphemisms for avoiding every religious reference in everyday speech, then BC and AD are as acceptable as Wednesday and the notations of the Islamic calendar (AH).— OLP1999 12:09, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alina Maria Moldovan?[edit]

Does anyone know who this person is? The name looks very modern to me, particularly the 'maria' bit, I have never heard of them, and googling only produces modern people. I would be rather suspicious about this information unless someone could come up with a source.122.61.157.138 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:05, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
