What?[edit]

How did this get on the 2nd Armored Cavalry page? This has absolutely nothing to do with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.197.197.92 (talk • contribs) 22:31, 29 April 2006.


I noticed that in the initial statement that this article states that 2nd AD was deactivated in 1992. That is incorrect, in either 1995 or 1996 (can't remember which) the unit was retasked (a fancy term for completely and wholly renamed) to the 4th Infantry Division. I know it was in 1995 or 1996 because that's when I was with the division at Ft Hood, and that's when we switched our patches from 2nd AD to 4th ID. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.52.235.233 (talk) 06:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The initial statement that the 2AD was deactivated in 1992 was correct. I was in the 1st Tiger Brigade with 1/67 AR from 88-92 and served with the unit during desert shield and desert storm. The second brigade was deactivating when Saddam invaded Kuwait. The 1st Brigade and 3rd Brigade, from Germany, deployed to Desert shield/storm and served with other divisions. After the war 1st tiger brigade returned to Fort Hood and immediately became the 3rd Greywolf Brigade 1st Cav in the spring of 92. The division was totally gone from Fort Hood at that time and that side of the Post looked like a ghost town. In the summer of 92 the 3rd brigade deactivated, completing the deactivation of the division. In December of 92, 5th ID was moved from Fort Polk to Fort Hood and redesignated as the 2nd AD. When the 5th ID was redesignated 1/67 AR, 3/67 AR, and 1/41 IN guidons were sent back to 2nd AD from 1st Cav where they had been since the end of Desert Storm. I can see how this part of the 2nd AD history can be confusing for individuals stationed there after 92 because it was deactivated for such a short period of time, but there was a deactivation. I personally served in the 1/67 AR in 3 different divisions during my career, 2nd AD, 1st CAV, and 4th ID. M1tnkr (talk) 09:35, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dates Wrong[edit]

2nd Armored Division was the last true Armor unit the U.S. Army had. It was deactivated after Desert Storm in 1993.... NOT 1995. I was in 2AD (Fwd) during Desert Storm. 72.216.84.241 (talk) 16:31, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
