Mouse model of SHANK3 deletion[edit]

In Nature, published 28-Apr-2011 (472, 437-442), a mouse model of SHANK3 deletion is described ("Shank3 mutant mice display autistic-like behaviours and striatal dysfunction"). These mice show self-injurious repetitive grooming and deficits in social interaction. The findings are defects at striatal synapses and cortico-striatal circuits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robert Eriksens (talkcontribs) 20:50, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Terminology[edit]

Under Etiology, Asperger's syndrome is stated to be a form of high functioning autism. There is no citation for this. It implies all Asperger's sufferers are high functioning, which is false. I recommend changing "a type of high-functioning autism." to "a disorder in the Autism spectrum." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.6.107 (talk) 09:11, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We[edit]

We should adopt a common structure for the description of a genetic syndrome. For example, that of Down Syndrome:

  1. (Introduction)
  2. Characteristics
  3. History
  4. Genetics (Etiology)
  5. Incidence
  6. Prenatal screening
  7. Cognitive development
  8. Health
  9. Genetic research
  10. Sociological and cultural aspects
  11. References
  12. Bibliography
  13. External links
    1. Societies and Associations
    2. Conferences
