On the Yokozuna-Ōzeki situation[edit]

Does anyone feel the banzuke for the January tournament would be better and more precise if Terunofuji is refered a YO (or Y-O) rather than Y to stick to his title of Yokozuna-Ōzeki for this tournament? OtharLuin (talk) 12:39, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Years in sumo writing[edit]

@JRHorse it's not the first time I see you overwriting or completely changing paragraphs other editors write on sumo. I would like you to comment on the talk page to reach a consensus rather than monopolize the article and write it on your own accord, especially when the meaning of the paragraph is not changed... @OtharLuin I do not appreciate your personal attack on me. Looking at what you added, there is nothing in the referenced article to suggest that Wakatakakage is taking one to 1 1/2 years years off.

If you believe that I am “monopolizing” posts as you say, then perhaps I should show my interest for sumo in some other way. JRHorse (talk) 15:25, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the part that says that Wakatakakage will be out for a year or a year and a half, as this is not suggested by the cited source. May 23[edit]

@OtharLuin Wanted to ask your thoughts as to why the withdrawals of current jūryō competitors should be listed here. Current makuuchi withdrawals would be more notable, such as Kotoshōhō, but should the article turn into an indiscriminate list of the who and why of any wrestlers that pull out. I also do not think there is a precedent of wrestlers below makuuchi at the time being listed in such articles, but I could be wrong. Thanks, JRHorse (talk) 12:54, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have to say that I really appreciate both of you updating sumo articles - for a long time I was basically the only one doing it and now my time is much more limited it's great to others stepping up. OtharLuin I admire your enthusiasm but I do agree with JRHorse that in general, listing all juryo withdrawals and full details of the exact injury would perhaps be a little too much for a general audience. This particular case I would probably let go as Enho and Chiyonokuni are both well-known former makuuchi wrestlers, but it's something to consider in the future as we don't want these articles to get too bloated.-- Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:03, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see the point. Regarding the addition indeed both wrestlers are former maegashira, but there is also precedent for mentioning juryo wrestlers other than via championship wins (2020 and 2021 already mention withdrawal from competition for COVID cases). Also I found the addition interesting as for both wrestlers, as injury situations are repeated and emphasize probable missed opportunities for further promotion in makuuchi (especially for Enho). However, I wouldn't mind if the paragraph were to be deleted, especially if the project moves towards an exclusive coverage of makuuchi - OtharLuin (talk) 13:21, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

With regards to mentioning jūryō wrestlers previously, I think we can all agree that the pandemic was an exceptional circumstance. As you all know, in the case of one tournament the covid rules at that time resulted in entire stables having to withdraw. JRHorse (talk) 15:11, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
