Can we really call this a historic flood at this point[edit]

It is still very early in this event I don't know if it could be considered "Historic" idk if it would fall under objectivity. Only one source has stated such and is not backed by full research or in relation to other flood's Zwphyr (talk) 14:03, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CNN “Fort Lauderdale experienced the rainiest day in its history Wednesday – a 1-in-1,000-year rainfall event”, The City of Wilton Manors “The City has experienced historic rainfall”, Tulsa World “Historic flooding struck Fort Lauderdale”, CBS News “Fort Lauderdale declares state of emergency after historic rainfall, flooding. I think there is enough sources to verify the “Historic” statement in the lead. Elijahandskip (talk) 15:52, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rescue Operation's[edit]

I am very new to the wiki and still getting my footing but you you guy's got any good sources for the rescue operations and couldn't find much other then what I got. Zwphyr (talk) 21:53, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Change the name to show expanded impact?[edit]

The storm impacted much of South Florida, including large populated areas of Broward County outside of Fort Lauderdale proper, including Hollywood, Davie and Dania Beach. Miami-Dade also suffered significant flooding, especially on April 11. Should we change the name to 2023 South Florida floods to be more encompassing? I’m not opposed to it. That said, almost all the news articles focus on Fort Lauderdale. Even WPC’s technical discussion (the one pictured in the article) specifically mentions Fort Lauderdale. Honestly, the “Fort Lauderdale flood” might be the common name for this flooding event. I’ll wait for others to comment, but I’m a little bit leaning to keeping the current name on common-name reasons. Elijahandskip (talk)
Well, there's an article: 2023 South Florida floods and ironically, I created it, though that article is proposed to merge into 2023 Fort Lauderdale floods. Tails Wx 13:51, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fort Lauderdale Flood is the appropriate name. The extremely heavy rain was very localized to Fort Lauderdale itself (and specifically to the area around the airport). While the rest of the county did see heavy rain and localized street flooding, it was not beyond what occasionally happens during summer storms (let alone hurricanes). Many folk in the western side of the urban area, including myself, were not aware anything unusual had happened until the following day's news - heavy rain is simply a normal thing in South Florida. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:589:300:CA70:435:8CF7:BBC2:38D3 (talk) 16:03, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I did see some aftermath near Coconut Grove station, as we actually had to stay a few more days. My flight was canceled due to fll being flooded :( Wikimeln (talk) 13:31, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Article checks out the new enough, long enough, and within policy criteria. I'd honestly go with that ALT1 because that's such a crazy stat to me. But I would say some tweaking should be done to ALT0. Right now "comparable to the average April rainfall total" can come off as ambiguous, bc a reader could wonder "average April rainfall total of what exactly?" I know it's probably obvious to most, but just some minor tweaking need for 100% clarity on ALT0. That and the QPQ needs to be done and then it'll be good to go. Soulbust (talk) 01:12, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Soulbust, I've tweaked the ALT0 hook to "in which the rates were the average April rainfall total", and I've completed the QPQ. Let me know if any additional fixes are needed! Thanks! Tails Wx 16:13, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tails Wx: Yep this is good to go, I like ALT1 just a touch more than ALT0, but both check out and are good to go for the DYK section. Good job on the article! Soulbust (talk) 20:24, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'd also like to thank you for reviewing and Elijah for creating the article! Tails Wx 12:46, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
