Independents in the infobox[edit]

Hi Helper201 (talk · contribs), you've removed independents from the infobox with the edit summary This section is for political parties. Independent politicians are not a party. I don't really understand the premise: the infobox is there to summarise the article. For an election, that means summarising the election. Independents are a major political force in Welsh politics and they control two councils and are coalition partners in almost half the others. Eliding them from the infobox doesn't make much sense, and I don't see what WP:INFOBOX or Template:Infobox election says that discourages or prohibits their inclusion? Hi Ralbegen (talk · contribs). One of the major issues with its inclusion is that independents in this context are not a party or a political grouping. Placing them in the infobox in this manor makes it seem as if they are a party or grouping or that they are united in some way, which they are not. Independents are in this case just that, independent (from each other and the parties). Their views can and likely do range drastically among themselves and they do not stand in a bloc. Take other elections where independents have made up significant portion of those elected, like the 2020 Irish general election, where they were not included in the infobox despite winning 12.2% of first-preference votes and 12% of elected TDs. The infobox also has parameters clearly designed for the use of parties such as "leader" and "party" which in no way apply to independents. Helper201 (talk) 20:12, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We routinely use Independent politician in election box party fields: I don't think there's any conflict or contradiction there. We can also leave the leader field empty, as in the infobox I produced including independents. I think that the importance of independents to local elections in Wales is undersold if we exclude them from the infobox. If you think it's confusing, one option could be to include a note in the infobox and prose in the article? Ralbegen (talk) 20:33, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What I was trying to say is that placing them in the infobox makes it look like they are a party, group/grouping or a block, when they are all individual from each other. As noted, this does not appear to be done in other election infoboxs like the 2020 Irish election. I think we could find a way to include independents more in the main body, however I don't see how we can include them in the infobox while negating its ambiguity regarding making them seem like a party or group. I'm open to ideas of how they could be included in a way that would make this appear clear that they are all individual independents. Helper201 (talk) 22:02, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Info box[edit]

Is there a way to get the info box to appear as two and two (with Labour and Plaid on the top and Conservatives and LDs on the bottom)? This would make it look smarter and be consistant with previous Welsh elections (2017, 2012 etc). I'm sure there's a way I just can't work it out! Green Party[edit]

Someone has included that the Greens won their first seat in Wales at this election. This is untrue as they won one seat in Powys in 2017. Kalamikid (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
