Circuit map change[edit]

I have changed the circuit map to the one used in previous seasons . I thought it looked better from a presentation point of view--Engine V10R (talk) 20:00, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Our goal is not to produce the most aesthetically appealing work possible. WP:ALTERNATIVE outlets exist for that. I made a new track map because the corner numbers on the one used previously was out of date and thus did not comply with WP:VERIFY. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 20:03, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have a serious issue with the colours on the map. I care not about the other things. I simply want the colours gone. There are never colours on these kinds of maps. The colours are also unexplained. This has now been reverted twice by independent users. Please obtain a wider consensus before re-adding and changing long-standing consensus on this issue. You may be able to cite things like WP:VERIFY and WP:ALTERNATIVE but that does not override the removal and reversion for reasons which are stated. You cannot simply add colours to a map and not explain them. I also cannot fathom any circumstances which would warrant the addition of colours. Colours require a key and that reduces the ability to access and understand the map at a galnce. I thank you for being bold not please take on board the feedback. I have now uploaded a new version of the file with the corner numbers amended. Sparkle1 (talk) 19:22, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I added a key for the colours. The corner names given in the older circuit map are still unsourced and somewhat dubious since the names at this track change regularly. The location of the pit lane entrance has also changed since the older map was created. The new version also shows the locations of DRS zones. The colours are in a palette which is designed to minimise conflict for colour-blind viewers, and are useful for demonstrating the surroundings of the track if a driver goes off the circuit, such as when Bottas went through the grass in qualifying at last years Austrian Grand Prix. Edit: The old map also shows the finish line as being closer to the first corner than it currently is. I thank you for your good-faith edits, but I think there needs to be a wider discussion for such a radical and extreme change. There is too much detail in my opinion on the map you propose. there are zero benefits to "demonstrating the surroundings of the track if a driver goes off", just like there is no benefit to the DRS zones, or sectors, etc. being on the map. Also note a previous version on the simpler map removed the DRS zones. The map is there for simplicity. There is currently no colour blindness issues as there is no unnecessary colour. The version with the colour seems to have colour there for the sake of it and it adds nothing. If there are errors with the map as it currently stands please update the map, but don't chuck it out and throw away consistency, add confusion, and create confusion. Especially where the current style and version does everything that is needed and cuts out everything unneeded. I suggest this proposal for the map you like and have made yourself is taken to the wider Wikiproject on Formula one. Sparkle1 (talk) 22:28, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I follow. The latest version I have added is largely consistent with the style used for numerous other Formula One circuits, many of which show the locations of sectors in that exact style. In reality the primary reason I originally used the version which showed the run-off areas is because it was what I immediately had to hand (I was experimenting with colour palettes designed to make maps more legible to colourblind people) and the previous map failed WP:VERIFY. Personally I do think that adding context to the map significantly improves it, especially given the frequency of current debates about track limits. Issue[edit]

The information normally given for this articles into the right box - Race 8 of 23 in the 2021 Formula One World Championship - does not work. Does anyone know why?--Island92 (talk) 12:35, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ping @SSSB:--Island92 (talk) 18:16, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. The problem was that "Formula One" wasn't an accepted input for the "type" parameter. I am fixing this now.
SSSB (talk) 18:49, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea how to allow "Formula One" as a input for "type". I may just need a second look, I'll try to remember to do this tomorrow.
SSSB (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. The most important thing is that it was finally fixed. Thanks.--Island92 (talk) 19:44, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
