Page creation[edit]

I saw no one had posted a template and basic page for this event, so I went ahead and created a page for this bus crash. Since it has at least 12 student fatalities, this most likely will be referenced again in future bus related accidents. This is my first wikipedia page creation, so things may not be perfect.--Abc2VE (talk) 00:01, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WHY was this page created? I appreciate the fact of reading it was a "first wikipedia page creation" otherwise I would suppect a need for wikipedia page creation. And I can semi understand a feeling of importance to preserve this event, but IMO it is premature since details are still unfolding, and I question why this site is just warehousing some of the data from news sources. If I could flag the entry as "has no place here" or here YET, I would. I just think it is wrong that search engines are finding this page along with current news sources. Are these details necessary?[edit]

Right now, the final sentence in the article is the report from a CBS News correspondent, relaying a claim by a mother of three of the children on the bus. This claim, that the driver asked the children if they were ready to die, is itself being relayed by the mother from two of her surviving children. I do not question that the mother has made this claim and that it has been reported in a reliable source. But I do question whether its inclusion here serves any encyclopedic purpose, especially given that local officials have not commented on the accuracy of the claim itself. I would greatly appreciate hearing the opinions of other editors about this.

In a similar vein, is it necessary to identify the driver by name? Although he has been arrested, he has not yet been indicted and certainly has not yet been convicted of anything. Does anyone see an encyclopedic purpose that outweighs the privacy considerations that we normally extend to non-public persons? In my page-creation paragraph above, I am guilty of premature posting, or not noticing details. The fact that the original author wrote "12 student fatalities, " but today's 11/23 news headlines say "6th Student dies" makes me more convinced we should not be and the presentation page should be removed (for now at least.) Can you offer any reason why an article as short as this needs to be re-structured into a lead paragraph and a single section?
Would you please justify the removal of reliably-sourced information (regarding the number of critically-injured children) caused by your restructuring?
The {{cite web}} template has fields for both the website and its publisher. Your edit summary states that you think they are not necessary. But how does this translate into a prohibition against those fields being used by other editors?
Regarding the mother's claim, both of the sources originally in the article stated that they were not based on original reporting, but were based on reporting by other organizations. The source I added was the original source for the re-published reports. If you feel that the re-publications should be included in the article, feel free to add them back in. But they should be in addition to, and not in place of, the original source.

Page rename[edit]

The page was recently boldly moved from 2016 Chattanooga school bus crash -> Chattanooga school bus crash. There have been many school bus crashes in Chattanooga over the years. A year is extremely helpful to specify which bus crash the article is about. Per WP:CONCISE balance brevity with sufficient information to identify the topic to a person familiar with the subject area. The year is both brief and balances and the need to identify the topic. In this case the 2016 is not to disambiguate from other Wikipedia articles, it's "sufficient information" to identify the topic since-there are other school bus crashes that have occurred in Chattanooga which "a person familiar with the subject area" could know of. - GreenC 16:50, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
