Parts of 2014 Ryder Cup are the same as 2012 Ryder Cup, which the web site has copied. So actually the web site has copied wikipedia not the other way round. Nigej 11:22, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

US first or Europe first ?[edit]

First a fact: we have Europe (or GB/GB&I) first in all the previous 39 editions (I think). It wasn't me that started this but perhaps the logic is this: for matches in Europe we use the European convention of home first, ie Europe first. In the USA we use the US convention of away team first, ie Europe is still first. Or perhaps the originator just thought that Europe/GB/GB&I ought to go first. I've got a marked preference for Europe first since I'm always keen on consistency and don't fancy editing the 19 previous matches in Europe to change the order. You literally posted this 15 seconds before I did, so I have deleted my original comment and will just respond to yours. I personally like the away team always being on the left because this is how it is read out verbally (ie. "Match 1 will be Watson and Simpson against Molinari and Rose") irregardless of the order they are written. The teams are also introduced away team first. Thanks for your message. I had taken a look at the 2012 page, and saw that where the matches are listed, the USA being the host country, their flag was on the right -- and that with Europe being the visitor, their flag was on the left.
So, I figured, since the USA is now the visitor in 2014, in the interest of symmetry in relation to the 2012 page, where the matches are listed on the 2014 page, the opposite of that would be correct, with the Europe flag being on the right as the host, and the USA flag being on the left as the visitor.

Additionally, I figured the same reverse logic should apply to the info box also (the box at the top of the page); on the 2012 page's info box, the USA flag is on the left, and the Europe flag is on the right. So, for the 2014 page's info box, the Europe flag is on the left, and the USA flag is on the right.

As long as the order of all the flags on the 2014 page is reversed from what it was for the 2012 page (the difference between "home & away"), I believe this can take away confusion as to what order the flags are to be in. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 19:49, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also I think we should align the flags of the team that wins a match with their players. In the past all of the flags were on the left, but I think it is better set up the way it is done on television with the flag aligned toward the side of the winning team.

For example, the 2012 box would have looked like this:

Currently we have for the Ryder Cup: Infobox - home team always first, Teams - home team first generally (with some exceptions), Scores - GB/GB&I/Europe first.

We follow a similar convention for the Presidents Cup: Infobox - home team always first, Teams - home team first, Scores - International team first.

Also for the Solheim Cup: Infobox - home team always first, Teams - home team first, Scores - Europe first.

By my count we have to consider the following two team events: Ryder Cup (40), Presidents Cup (10), Seve Trophy (8), Royal Trophy (7), EurAsia Cup (1), Solheim Cup (13), Lexus Cup (4), Walker Cup (10)

Generally there is an attempt to have a consistent approach within each event but there are some variations between events, although the idea is that they vaguely follow the same style. Differences generally reflect the ideas of the original editors.

My main concern is that we might follow some approach for the 2014 Ryder Cup which out of line with the other 92 similar team events (between two teams). Nigej (talk) 21:39, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why Europe would always be first, I would be fine with the Americans listed first as the "Away team", especially since another user has already gone and reformatted all of the boxes to place the home team on the right. It is a convention we are used to seeing, it is the order that the teams are introduced, the order of priority for press availability, and the way it appears on television broadcasts. One more note, though. What is the correct "o" character to use in Bjorn's name? I have always used the "ö" character, which is the way he is listed by the European Tour and the way his name appears on their TV broadcasts, but it is often also written with the "ø" character, including his Wiki entry. Official scoring uses Europe first both http://www.rydercup.com/usa/scoring and http://www.rydercup.com/europe/scoring . Whether someone else has reformatted already is not really a relevant issue. Not sure who "we" is referring to. I am used to the opposite. Remember this an English Language version of wikipedia not a US version and is used worldwide. Which TV broadcasts are you referring to: US? What about European broadcasts? and others round the world. Singles result order[edit]

FWIW my notes agree with the order of the results here, but it would be good to get a source if possible. I'm pretty sure the order some of the results (4/5/6) were shown out of order on Sky. Rawling4851 16:55, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
