Dates in infobox[edit]

The two-line date entry using the start_date and end_date templates is unnecessary. A date range template is needed. Tewapack (talk) 16:37, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My addition of {{Start date}} and {{End date}} templates for the dates of this tournament was removed by you twice, the first time with no edit summary and the second with a sumamry of "need a date range template". I said in my second edit summary: "Please leave these templates; they emit metadata - see template documentation". Metadata is not "unnecessary", and as we don't yet have a date-range tempate, these templates are currently the only way we have to do this, and should be restored. IMHO, the benefit of using the date templates is outweighed by messiness they cause in the infobox, i.e. two lines for the date range instead of one compact line. Tewapack (talk) 21:09, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But such aesthetic issues are - as you acknowledge - a matter of opinion, whereas the benefits of metadata are tangible. We have an essay about that; see WP:BIKESHED. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:22, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
