Page move today by User:Charles Essie[edit]

What exactly is the justification for the page move from "-2013" to "-2014"? This seems problematic to me on two grounds. Firstly, the level of protests in KSA, never extensive, had some notoriety in 2011/12. They turned to a dribble in 2013 and now one women's protest in 2014 (I can't even see it in the article) hardly justifies the page move. Secondly, the original subject matter of this article had notoriety as part of the aftermath of the "Arab Spring". The year dates make an implicit linkage to the Arab Spring. That likage has now gone. I think there is an NPOV issue with giving the impression that the Arab Spring "persists" in KSA. It doesn't. Frankly, it is no longer current in the way it once was.

It seems to me that there are 2 alternatives for this article (both valid). EITHER it is specifically about the Arab Spring aftermath in which case it should be called, e.g. 2011–12 Saudi Arabian protests or something less date oriented like Arab Spring response in Saudi Arabia. OR it becomes a more general article about demands for reform, continues to record the dribble of protests still happenening, but potentially includes pre 2011 activities e.g. Reform protests in Saudi Arabia. It might be worth first seeing what are others' views on the scope of this article. If every (probably very sporadic) protest will be added as time goes by (as I suspect will be the case) then a more generic title not linked to years or the Arab Spring would be better. If we can establish the discipline that it is limited to the immediate consequences of the Arab Spring (unlikely I suspect) then the title should be moved back (possibly even to "-2012") or it should be moved to a title where "Arab Sring" is mentioned. 2011–12 Saudi Arabian protests → 2011–2012 Saudi Arabian protests or 2011–'12 Saudi Arabian protests – The current article title, 2011–12 Saudi Arabian protests, makes the date read like "December 2011" in ISO 8601 format. Obviously two-digit years are a recipe for ambiguity and should be avoided, as was learned in Y2K. I propose a page move to either 2011–2012 Saudi Arabian protests or 2011–'12 Saudi Arabian protests. I prefer the former, though either would be less confusing than the status quo. Thoughts? – voidxor 01:23, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose for WP:CONSISTENCY. There are currently 1722 articles which currently use the formatting "2011–12" in their title, so it would not appear that the concern about pontential confusion is widespread. And it's not just that one two-year span: 2012–13 appears in 1888 titles, 2013–14 in 2034 titles, 2014–15 in 2224 titles. The current formatting also follows the MOS, as specified at WP:DATERANGE. Concerns about potential problems with the formatting being confused for yyyy–mm should probably be raised there rather than here, as, if it is a problem, it's one that effects thousands upon thousands of articles. Unconfirmed rumor, should be removed[edit]

The line in the introduction about the Facebook organiser is not confirmed, references are not providing any reliable source. It is unconfirmed report that I call to be removed. Farhan (talk) 15:42, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
