Wow[edit]

In Britain, the 19th century is dominated by the Victorian era, characterized by Romanticism, with Romantic poets such as William Wordsworth, Lord Byron or Samuel Taylor Coleridge and genres such as the gothic novel and the fashionable novel.

Was this article (or at least this sentence) written by anyone who has actually ever taken a class on, or read anything about, nineteenth century English literature? The Victorian era was not characterized by romanticism - the Romantic era preceded the Victorian era. Obviously, there's an extent to which Victorian literature can be characterized as Romantic, as well, but that's a whole higher level of discussion, which this article really doesn't need to get into, given the absurdly low level of detail. What an irremediable mess. john k (talk) 18:29, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
