Assessment[edit]

Extremely close to B-class. However, the TDs need their own sections, with infoboxes. If the intensity was unknown, you can say that in the infobox/paragraph unless you're able to find out the information. --Coredesat 20:10, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I set at B class. I'd still like to see a better opening sentence, perhaps, The 1983 Atlantic hurricane season was the least active Atlantic hurricane season in 53 years, which could then cite hurdat. Also, be sure units are similar. Chantal in particular isn't good. Ref similarity is needed. The ref should come just after the . in the sentence, as well. GA Pass[edit]

  • Well-written - Pass. Just one typo, which I fixed. In some places prose could be better, but all in all pretty good.
  • Factually accurate - Pass. I noticed a few places which could use sources, though I know they are true. First, "ending what was (as of the 2006 season) the longest such gap recorded." Hurdat would suffice, or, ideally, find a NOAA document saying it. Second, "The first storm formed on August 15 which, on average, is a late start." Citing the NHC climatology page works.
  • Broad in coverage - Pass. One recommendation I have is merging the depressions section. There is a lot of blank space as it is. You can just copy over the prose, and include one image. No infobox is needed, as pressure data is unavailable and the section title would clearly say tropical depressions.
  • Non-Pov - Pass
  • Stable - Pass
  • Images - Pass, though maybe try bugging Nilfanion or someone else with a track map generator to get a better track map image for the infobox.

TD6 - Did it exist?[edit]

I recently got a reply from the National Hurricane Center on the Tropical Depression Six status. Apparently is was tracked operationally, but in post-analysis was demoted from depression status. So if anyone's confused on the depression, that would be why.Mitch32contribs 22:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adam: Thank you for your e-mail. A post-season analysis on TD6 indicated that it was not a TD after all, and was dropped from the season archives.Discussions on the other two TDs are found in the Monthly Weather Review, which publishes the complete and official report by the NHC specialists.

Yes. But I don't see a reference to any TDs in the article that you put as a reference (I read it twice). The non-development tropical system file seems to support your claim, but is unreferenceable for the time being. I've placed a fact tag where the statements were made. Point me to the reference that mentions this fact, and we can remove the fact tags. As a side note, FA articles can't have fact tags, so respond soon. System Dates[edit]

How do we deal with the system dates on this article? I ask as according to HURDAT TD 1 formed and dissipated, before July 29, which is when this article reckons the tropical depression formed. However, the storm wallets point me to believe that the depression formed early on the 28th per UTC.Jason Rees (talk) 19:14, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Alicia[edit]

According to that article, Alicia was determined to be a hurricane on the 17th, not the 16th. It was named as a tropical storm on the 15th. - Dank (push to talk) 01:27, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fails on notability grounds since the impact falls under WP:ROUTINE. The season article is small enough as it is so I see no reason for this to exist. Noah, AATalk 14:13, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak oppose. Yes the season article is short, and yes the impacts were fairly routine, but Dean was one of only a handful of storms to hit Virginia, so I think it is notable enough. I also feel that the impacts, while minor, would be too much to merge. Any time when dealing with a potential merge, I usually try to see what the section would look like, and it just seemed too long to be appropriate. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:02, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
