Heisman's first perfect season / championship[edit]

Clemson was considered the outright champion in 1900 was also Heisman's first season and perfect season. Neither Auburn (only 4 games) nor Tulane claim an SIAA championship for this season. [1][2][3] SportsEdits1 (talk) 23:42, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Davidson according to some sources was in the SIAA during this time [4], which would explain the standings in the various media guides. Didn't you change this? Auburn only had 4 games nearby that season against teams with .500 or less. All of Clemson's games were away or at neutral sites (except Davidson), per schedule. I did change it. They receive no mention in newspapers or Auburn's yearbook, or anywhere else I've found aside from Saylor's source. Also, as e. g. Fuzzy Woodruff makes clear, Virginia and North Carolina were their own region. Regionally, Wofford is in SIAA territory. Auburn's PPG is exactly the same as Clemson and they beat Bama and UGA worse than Clemson did. Clemson certainly considered itself better than Auburn and Sewanee, but I am having trouble justifying that. Cake (talk) 23:04, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Now you and I both know points per game and margin of victory can be highly misleading Cake, and doesn't determine anything. Calhoun, SC was the name of the town that eventually became known as Clemson, South Carolina. Columbia in that minor blurb is probably where the wire or cable came from. Davidson wasn't in the SIAA in 1906 - Spalding's guide specifically mentions the teams in the South Atlantic section which are in the SIAA, and does not mention Davidson, but then goes on to list them among teams in the South Atlantic section. That year was their most "SIAA" heavy schedule and most often cited season for SIAA membership, and the contemporary list I have in Auburn's yearbook of 1899 and 1903 members does not include them, though media guides will say there were there until 1906.
