Capitalization[edit]

Shouldn't "1,1-Dimethyldiborane" be lowercase in the IUPAC name, as in "1,1-dimethyldiborane"? 130.159.132.155 (talk) 09:41, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on use. The "dimethyldiborane" portion of the chemical name should be treated as any other common noun, capitalizing it at the start but not in the middle of a sentence, for example. Redistribution[edit]

One issue to investigate further is the tendency (or not) of 1,2-dimethyldiborane to redistribute into other things, like 1,1-dimethyldiborane, trimethyldiborane. --Smokefoot (talk) 16:19, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

From the JOC 1986 by Brown "Methylborane in solution is a surprisingly stable ... no appreciable amount of disproportionation products observed in the llB NMR within 2-3 h at room temperature." It is the more methylated derivatives that are messy. Anyway, no one uses this stuff. The compound has been cited 22 x, which reflects low interest/utility. Probably the other derivatives are even more obscure since they are labile.--Smokefoot (talk) 15:28, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
