Origin[edit]

First, we're told "The history of this usage as a self-conscious literary construction, typically as a book title, traces back to 1740 ..."

Then, we're given an example that dates from 1718. Doesn't this mean that -ana/-iana dates from at least as early as 1718? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 07:19, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What the page cited as reference shows in 1740 is Scaligerana, Thuana, Perroniana, which is the self-conscious manufacture of titles using the suffix. There could be more to it all, I don't know the bibliographic material in any detail. Thanks for the expansion, by the way. Charles Matthews (talk) 21:48, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese[edit]

Could Hiragana and Katakana be described here or does that have a differing etymology? Ranze (talk) 22:39, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
