The genre is wrong. This is not indie pop. Indie pop is a different thing. This is pop. Indie pop is different. Not this. Thank you. 64Fathoms (talk) 12:26, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: The references I found (and now added) state they are an Indie pop band. Sarahj2107 (talk) 15:50, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is the Derbyshire Times really the most reliable source for music genre's? Surely there must be other sources that state they are simply pop, not indie-pop. Surely common sense dictates this? They don't even border on Indie 147.143.220.222 (talk) 13:35, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Searching for references, I've picked up a mixed bag. the likes of Last FM and Digital Spy, probably more reliable musically than Derbyshire Times, state the band are simply pop. That said, some of the bands personal accounts, such as their Soundcloud and Youtube pages, use the term indie-pop. Obviously, to any music fan or writer, this is of course untrue, but as a primary source, I assume this should prevail. Would it make more sense to have both Indie Pop and pop in the genre section, then stick with Indie Pop in the main body of text as per the bands personal description of their music? 147.143.220.222 (talk) 13:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely not indie pop. Nothing like. Last FM is not a reliable source, and neither are their own web pages. Find several sources written by people who know what they're talking about which don't just regurgitate PR and if they say indie pop there may be a case. Why do so many of these awful commercial 'artists' like to consider themselves 'indie', and why do so many of their fans do the same? Here's sources describing them as a pop band: [1], and these describe them as a boy band: [2], [3], [4], [5]. --Michig (talk) 18:32, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
they are a pop rock band now - their genre has changed a bit Hiyamate1234 (talk) 11:31, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Genre

[edit]

I am a big fan of The Vans and I know that the genre of their music is in fact - Acoustic-driven indie pop band - I don't only know this from being a fan but also because it is on their twitter name. Andreia simpson (talk) 12:09, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merge awards

[edit]

The page List of awards and nominations received by the Vamps should be merged back into the Vamps because the table of awards is very small, and this page about the Vamps is not very large either. The resulting combined article will not be clunky, unbalanced or too large. Binksternet (talk) 16:01, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. The deletion discussion was closed way too hastily, and I disagree with the rationale used. However, since we're here, I'll support a merge. To highlight the few awards like this in their own individual article is undue, and there is no reason to believe the the information will overwhelm the main article. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 16:17, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This could better be integrated into that article and does not warrant its own article. StudiesWorld (talk) 09:57, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I say we should merge this content back into the main Vamps article. Binksternet (talk) 06:31, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Vamps (British band)The Vamps – Should never have been moved. Unreal7 (talk) 16:32, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)* Move The Vamps (Australian band) to The Vamps superfluous disambiguation per WP:UNDAB, and unnatural parenthetical one to boot per WP:NATURALDIS. wp:primarytopic in relation to "The Vamps (British band)", per wp:recent & WP:TWODABS. IIO, are you going to create a stub for the 1980 Cheltenham based punk band? That won't make the Australian band any less of a wp:primarytopic... walk victor falk talk 21:30, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ha! I knew it! You edited your post to add them (: !! As I said, good luck showing they are a wp:primarytopic competitor. As for "VAMPS" (stylised thus), "the" is a sufficient disambiguator for bands when part of the name, as in the The Who and not Who (band). walk victor falk talk 21:37, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I only just noticed the Japanese band, they were an afterthought No, as above I don't think the Cheltenham punk band are notable, they are only mentioned in passing in a single night in the The Roxy London WC2 book and not worthy of mention in The Roxy London WC2 article. I'm afraid I don't support your alternative Move The Vamps (Australian band) to The Vamps either - even though historically and in books the Australian band has a better claim to encyclopedic significance, the fact is that the boy band is a hot property now and for the next couple of years, maybe even to the extent of letting The Vamps continue to redirect to the boyband. I just pipelinked 30 pages where the boy band had been added to every thing from Froot Loops to Leeds city centre, it's pretty certain that the boy band will continue to be seeded left right and center into any article that they remotely touch for the next couple of years. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:48, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is abject capitulation in the face of WP:RECENTISM. If this was 1997 wikipedia, when the movie with the Celine Dion song was "hot property now and for the next couple of years" until y2k, would you advocate putting that film instead of the boat at Titanic? Or, as actually happened a few years ago, establishing the principle of "enduring notability" and "long term encyclopedic value", the 3D movie instead of the hindu concept in 2009? walk victor falk talk 10:56, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
hi, re "letting The Vamps continue to redirect to the boyband?" yes I admit it, this would be abject capitulation in the face of WP:RECENTISM, however so much of wikipedia's music coverage is a blog that exists to catalogue sales figures and chart results, and it seems there's a significant commercial push from Mercury, Virgin EMI behind the boy band. This is the nature of pop(ular) market forces, or rather what is pushed to the market by corporations, so as long as this is an open cloud sourced volunteer project we probably should ride with it. I just fixed another 20 pipelinks ... In ictu oculi (talk) 03:16, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - as there are multiple musical groups called The Vamps or the Vamps there is always potential for confusion therefore it is preferable that a search be redirected to the appropriate disambiguation page Vamp, which provides greater clarification for the search.Dan arndt (talk) 00:39, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, there is only one other band called "the vamps" on wikipedia. And even if there was as third, it is still a school example of superfluous disambiguation to befuddle the wp:primarytopic one with the disambiguator. walk victor falk talk 10:56, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but there doesn't have to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and pushing always having one and slicing down titles as the essay WP:UNDAB does goes against both some other WP:CRITERIA, per WP:TWODABS (which allows 2 dabs), and some projects such as WP:USPLACE, royalty, ships and so on. I would like to change the genre of the band. The band is pop-rock rather than just pop - this is because guitars and other instruments are used. MusicManguy1111 (talk) 23:40, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 18:01, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
this is very true they are a pop rock band NOT a boyband - theyve said this themselves on many occasions, once saying that they would much rather be called a "really manly men band" than a boyband but the fact remains they are a proper band because they play instruments. Their genre is pop rock especially since they released their 5th album cherry blossom (the whole meaning behind it is that they are moving into a more like poprock genre) Hiyamate1234 (talk) 11:37, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Largely just assertions from both sides, no real way to determine which arguments are stronger. Jenks24 (talk) 05:14, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Vamps (British band)The Vamps – We barely have any proper info about the discography of the Australian band. A big chunk of the sources aren't even proper links, just text. The British band are the absolutely primary topic in the 21st century. Unreal7 (talk) 13:37, 23 December 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 07:24, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong oppose WP:RECENTISM The Vamps (Australian band) are more notable long term than this latest thing. And what about all the other possible subjects? In ictu oculi (talk) 14:17, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Then why is there almost no information about them? That's not true in the slightest. We have zero information about any album releases and the singles are pretty shoddy too. And there are only two things called "The Vamps", so all the other things will have no conflict. Seriously, please actually give a proper reason for opposing next time. Unreal7 (talk) 12:29, 25 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move Vamp as a band name seems to be so popular with a Norwegian folk music band called Vamp (without the The), so is the name of a Japanese rock band. Their is a Thai pop band called VAMP. The Australian The Vamps though seems to be a more local band like all earlier mentioned "Vamp"s. Clearly the British The Vamps is the highly prominent international band and multiple hits in so many charts and the main subject as "The Vamps". No comparison with all the Vamps, including the Australian one. By the way, there was actually a discussion about this earlier in 2014, where it was preferred to use The Vamps as a redirect to Vamps disambiguation page. That point of view and consensus may have a merit I must admit. But the stronger the British The Vamps become, the more I am inclined to give them the benefit of doubt as main subject. werldwayd (talk) 11:44, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. In this case, WP:THE/"The" is not a sufficient disambiguator to distinguish itself from subjects listed at the disambiguation page Vamps. Steel1943 (talk) 05:03, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - The annoying part I actually wanna support but the name could easily be confused with the Japanese or Norwegian band so to make life simpler I have to oppose. –Davey2010 Merry Xmas / Happy New Year 02:16, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Suggest also that the 3rd band Vamps (band) is moved back to Vamps (Japanese band) as it also occurs with "the" sometimes. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:42, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

James McVey's birth year

[edit]

James McVey was born on 30 April 1993, NOT 1994. In 2012, he confirmed on his official Twitter account that he was indeed born in 1993.[1] Also, last year on his Instagram, on his birthday (in 2019), he claimed that he had turned 26, which would also have added up back to 1993, not 1994, as stated in this article currently.
