Location[edit]

I assume it was where the Tanners Close development has now been built, on School Road? That's where I've plonked the coordinates, anyhow. Le Deluge (talk) 20:03, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Public access was always from the other side, via the footpath linking Brockhill Road and Lookers Lane. From that public footpath, a private footpath (accessed through a wicket gate) ran down to the main station between the gardens of Archway House and Tanners Croft. Originally this entire site was the grounds of Tanners House, but with the construction of several new houses on the site, the railway finally ran through the old grounds of Tanners House, and the (then current) grounds of Tilehurst and Tanners Croft. After the Schwab family vacated and sold Tanners House, family members lived in both Tilehurst and Tanners Croft. The part of the property sold off for the construction of Archway House had never been part of the railway. The Tanners Close development (constructed in the 2000s) is built in what were the grounds of Tanners Croft back in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and this is exactly where the railway ran. Thanks - that was speedy and comprehensive! I guess some of that should go in the article, as someone who knew nothing about the SMR it wasn't very obvious. Le Deluge (talk) 16:40, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. It's taken me over two years to pick up on this, but I will incorporate some of the above into the article shortly. Timothy Titus Talk To TT 19:41, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
