No consensus on American jan 6 coup[edit]
No consensus have been reached on the many discussion pages about whether this is counted as a coup or not (though I think it is obvious if it is or not), therefore it should not be listed until a proper consensus is reached. 103.244.228.42 (talk) 06:33, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed it shouldn't be added until a consensus is reached, especially with all the footage that was released raising speculation and debate. 49.188.220.81 (talk) 08:15, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

Sudan[edit]
Should we include the current Sudan conflict that started on 15 April, or is it like a civil war, or something else? Redoct87 (talk) 20:14, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Crimea 2014[edit]
Not sure if this was overlooked or prior discussion concluded that it wasn't a coup. Sources exist to say that legislators voted to secede at gunpoint fwiw. Elinruby (talk) 03:25, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Russia[edit]
Should the wagner rebellion count as an attempted coup? 122.104.176.109 (talk) 04:40, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- Its status as a coup is disputed; most sources are of the opinion that they weren't attempting to actually overthrow the government. — Czello (music) 07:57, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Discrepancy between US and Brazil[edit]
US' part has episodes before and after its independence. Brazil's has no mention of episodes before its independence and between independence and the proclamation of the republic. Some are very meaningful like the Inconfidência Mineira, many black led revolts against the portuguese colonial government, and the Revolução Farroupilha. Finally, Jânio Quadros also attempted a coup by trying to declare war on Guyana. 2804:14C:6588:848B:65D6:E013:1A9:4C67 (talk) 03:25, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Formatting Recommendation[edit]
I spent the last few days copy editing this whole article and picked a standard to make all the entries as consistent as possible. It would bring me great joy for others to follow this format so we do not return to a state of chaos here.
Here is a sample entry from Haiti:
1. February 5–29, 2004: President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was ousted during his second term.
Here are the conventions I used:
- Date is in Month Day, Year format (e.g., June 22, 2024). If there is no date or month, just use the year.
- For numerical ranges, I used the en dash (–) so we have February 5–29
- For date ranges that include months, I used the word "to," as in "January 10 to May 11 2024"
- If there is an article about the specific coup, attempted coup, or whatever, I anchored the link on the date of the event. I did not necessarily include the name of the coup in the list because there's a link to the main article if people are interested.
- There is a colon after the date.
- I tried to use complete sentences as much as possible
- I used the past tense (X overthrew Y) and not the present (X overthrows Y). There was a mix of tenses here before I edited so I picked past tense and ran with it.
There may well be mistakes because it is a very long article and I'm only human. Please ask me if you have any questions about it. SilkPyjamas (talk) 21:21, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
