Turkish or Kurdish
[edit]Is he of Turkish origin, or is he a Turkish-speaking Kurd?Kavas (talk) 21:02, 24 May 2010 (UTC) From the arcticle of Akif Beki published on Radikal, he said that he was of Oghuz Turk descent and not he is not a Kurdish man. The main part of the article in Turkish is as follows: "Dersim’li Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’nun neseben Kürt, mezheben Alevi olduğu sanılıyordu. Katıldığı son TV programlarında, konuya açıklık getirdi. Nesebi ve mezhebi hakkında bildiklerimiz doğru değilmiş. * Aslen, Oğuz boyuna mensupmuş soyu. Sülalesi, Horasan’dan göçüp gelmiş Dersim’e. Kitabi olarak söylersek, soyağacının dalları şöyle; ‘Kureyşan ocağı, Haydaran kabilesi, Bedirhan oymağı...’ ‘Kureyşan Ocağı ise, Oğuzlar’ın Bozok kolunun Beğdili boyundan geliyor.’ Öğreniyoruz ki, bir ucu da Hz. Muhammed’e dayanıyormuş. O’nun mübarek neslindenmiş, ailesi. Peygamber ahvadından oluyormuş ceddi. Ehl-i Beyt’e kadar uzanan bu kola, ‘Seyyid soyu’ deniyor. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, safkan bir Türk ve has bir peygamber evladı olarak çıkıyor karşımıza."Kavas (talk) 14:23, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- Contrary to Beki's comment, I think he does not say he is not an Alevi, but he says he is of Oghuz Turkic descent in his speech. If anyone can find the speech, we can directly use the speech here.Kavas (talk) 14:25, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Please do not add that he is of Kurdish origin before discussing on talk page. Kavas (talk) 15:38, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Theres no reliable source about his Kurdish or Zaza origins. According to Hurriyet newspaper, he states his origins are belong to Horasan Turkmens. --Finn Diesel (talk) 12:02, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- He is neither Turkish nor Kurdish. He is Zaza but some people who consider that Zaza might belong to Kurdih shsubgroup, write that he is Kurdish. In Turkey there are many case that non-Turkish people proclaims Türkmen or Oğuz by political reason. In my oppinion, we can also add their proclamations to articles. Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 15:19, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Although it seems a rumor there are some sources that his mother (Yemus) is an Armenian. And according to this source he is neither accepting nor rejecting. Yakamoz51 (talk) 19:53, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
Oldest political party of Turkey is Communist Part of TURKEY

Gandhi or Gandi
[edit]For me in this article it should be Gandhi because in the western media he called Turkey's Ganghi or Turkish Gandhi[1], and english sources about him again use Gandhi Kemal[2][3]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbatai (talk • contribs) 10:17, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
To Takabeg
[edit]There are sources claiming Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is of Kurdish or Zaza descent, but it's clear he himself says he is of Turkish descent. Wouldn't his own words be the primary source here? --Mttll (talk) 01:52, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
- The Kureyşan is an Alevi and Zaza speaking ocak. Kemo (Kemal)'s mother tongue is Zazaki (see CNN Türk). Kurdish nationalists and ill‐informed western media wrote "Kurdish". MHP's historian Yusuf Halaçoğlu claims that Kureyşan should be originally Turcoman (Türkmen ). And then Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu himself declared that Zazas (including Kureyşan) should be Turcoman (Türkmen) origin, of course, by political reason. Takabeg (talk) 02:34, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

- P.S. Sakine Cansız was not Kurd, but Zaza too. Probably you know this fact. Takabeg (talk) 02:39, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

You should post your personal research in a blog, not here. And this article isn't about a tribe; it's about one man, who has said that he's of Turkish descent at every occasion. Given Wikipedia's sensitivity to biographies of living persons, I don't see how we can put this article in a category which is contrary to what the man says about himself as if it's an undisputed fact. Sourced claims, on the other hand, can be mentioned in the article text. --Mttll (talk) 04:00, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- I didn't research personally. CNN Turk, Hürriyet etc... are not considered as personal research. They are considered as reliable sources. Or will you claim that Hürriyet newspaper is a nationalistic turkish newspaper like Leyla Zana ? Takabeg (talk) 04:31, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Did Kemal say that he's of Turkish descent at every occasion ? Do you have any sources to prove it ? Takabeg (talk) 04:33, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes. He basically said Kurds can be proud of their identity just as he is proud of being Turkish. But I'm not about to search Youtube for this, there is already a source in the article: --Mttll (talk) 05:07, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Although some have claimed that the Kılıçdaroğlu family has Kurdish roots, the CHP chief said they were actually descended from the Turkmen branch of the Kureyşan tribe, which he called one of the most important parts of the Alevi community. “It is said that my family came from Horasan and settled in the Central Anatolian province of Konya’s Akşehir district. The tomb of family elder Seyyid Mahmudi Hayrani is there,” Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said. “According to the narrative, they went to Adıyaman and Malatya and one branch to Tunceli after the war between Şah İsmail and Yavuz Sultan Selim. They are Turkmen branches.”
Having received no further reply, I'm removing the category. --Mttll (talk) 01:22, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

The name Kemal
[edit]Is he a descendant of Kemal Atatürk? If yes, it should be mentioned; if no, it should be mentioned that his name is only coincidence. --212.186.7.98 (talk) 08:01, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
- Uhh, what? It's his first name, not a family name. Why would that mean he is related to Atatürk? Do you mention on every article about people named John that they are/are not a relative of John F. Kennedy? Μαρκος Δ 12:47, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

IPA to help readers with pronouncing "Kılıçdaroğlu"
[edit]It would benefit the influx of new readers to this page to include an IPA pronunciation. Benlittlewiki (talk) 17:58, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, there is an IPA pronunciation. You have to click on footnote[a] (right after his name) to see it. Admittedly, I think that's a bit awkward but that seems to be common practice on the English-language Wikipedia. Kind regards --Kevin L. (talk) 18:41, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

- Çubuk lynch attempt
- Isle of Man case
- Gang of five
- 128 billion dollars

No source that he was attacked by PKK
[edit]Under 2016 Coup attempt it is claimed he was attacked by PKK. The source Reuters article however reads "Interior Minister Efkan Ala told Turkey’s NTV news channel that three soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire with what he said were Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) attackers." PKK did not claim responsibility for the attack.
I'd suggest "A couple months later his convoy was attacked in Artvin [33]" Or possibly "A couple months later his convoy was attacked in Artvin by what Interior minister Efkan Ala claimed was PKK [33]" Viktorsalo (talk) 06:37, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
English spelling vs Turkish
[edit]Given this is the English language wikipedia, I propose we spell his name in the English way with English letters rather than using the Turkish alphabet, which isn't typically known by anglophone readers. The AP style guide spells his name in English as Kilicdaroglu (for example). If there is no objection I will change it throughout the article and in the title. (For comparison, Wiki wouldn't write a Chinese politician's without transliteration.)
