Other people with same name

[edit]

there was an article on a professor and social activist with the same name, Donald J. Barr, which was deleted for copyright reasons. there is also a Donald Barr Chidsey, SF novelist, and even a horse trainer. the first 2 are somewhat notable. if articles are created/recreated, we will need a disambig page, etc. ive removed the redlinked hatnote on this page until then.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:31, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

jeffrey epstein

[edit]

Isn't it worth noting the Donald Barr was headmaster of the school when they hired Jeffrey Epstein to teach there at age 20 with no college degree or teaching certificates of any kind?Jackhammer111 (talk) 17:20, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm adding information compiled by Milne News that claims they confirmed a Daily Beast story that Donald Barr had resigned in February of 1974. Looking around, it seems that some articles such as this one from The Hill Reporter (https://hillreporter.com/the-ties-that-bind-jeffrey-epstein-william-barr-donald-trump-34107) erroneously states that Epstein started teaching at the school in 1973. According to the Dalton school newspaper, he didn't start teaching there until September of 1974. I don't believe that original source can be disputed.

However, it is possible that Barr could have hired Epstein before he resigned. Teachers are usually hired during the summer break to fill vacancies in schools, but it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Mr. Barr knew a position was going to be opened and agreed to hire Mr. Epstein in February of 1974 or even earlier.

As for not having a college degree or being certified, private schools have more latitude in that area than public schools. This would have possibly been an issue for the clients (parents/guardians) assuming they even knew, and would have been noted if an accreditation audit took place while Mr. Epstein had that position. I do not know the hiring requirements (if any) that Dalton had back in the mid '70s.--RRskaReb talk 02:10, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is all misleading junk. He announced his resignation. He worked there to the beginning summer. And epstein starting working that summer, and was obviously hired before. I typically vote gop btw - but I am appalled by the obvious lying of basic facts on purpose. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FCC8:A54B:7B00:FD2A:628C:D7B2:E09D (talk) 11:53, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But was it that unusual to hire somebody without a degree for this kind of position then? How good did Barr knew Epstein even if he hired him? And is this "sex-slave" novel really THAT close (one to one?) to the stuff Epstein did. Wasn't there an awful lot of "pornography" smuggled into paperbacks then, and also sex with, say 16 year olds did feature a lot in those books then(?)--Ralfdetlef (talk) 03:14, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is all a load of conspiracy theory blaming Donald Barr for nothing. You don't need a college degree to teach elementary algebra, geometry, or calculus. Also, Epstein wasn't convicted of anything when he was hired. Even in Florida, he wasn't convicted in a trial, he accepted a guilty plea at the state level when he was given federal criminal immunity. Later, the federal government in New York subjected him to double jeopardy.Arbeiten8 (talk) 18:46, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Space Relations

[edit]

Space relations is about human trafficking and sex slavery with a lot of children in it or use of names and descriptions implying children. As this was published not too long before he resigned, it's being talked about as controversial. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FCC8:A54B:7B00:FD2A:628C:D7B2:E09D (talk) 12:02, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
