Size

[edit]

I've heard that this arena is very small in comparison to other NBA arenas, if this is true, I think it should be mentioned. Gopherbassist 03:05, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It may be one of the smallest arenas in the league; however, Sacramento is not exactly the largest market, so a substantially larger facility might see a lot of empty seats once the luster wore off. I know that the NBA had some other facilities in 15-16K seating range (e.g., Miami Arena and Houston Summit [Compaq Center]), but (like the two examples) they may have all been replaced by now. 4.243.152.100 07:10, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfinished Baseball Stadium

[edit]

I was looking at the arena under Google Maps and noticed there's an unfinished baseball stadium next to the arena. Anyone know why it wasn't completed?

The Sacramento Sports Association ran out of money during construction in 1989, and could never find an occupant- The Los Angeles Raiders deal fell through, and many attempts to move the San Francisco Giants or the Oakland A's never materialized. --75.32.77.130 04:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wood floors?

[edit]

The arena has been noted for its loud character and continual at-capacity crowds, which, combined with wood floors, make it a tough environment for visiting teams.

I may be sadly mistaken, but isn't almost all basketball played on wooden courts? --Xyzzyva 01:06, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is referring to the wood floors that the grandstand seats sit on, not the playing surface. --75.32.77.130 04:42, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New naming rights

[edit]

The name of this article will soon need to be moved from ARCO Arena to Power Balance Pavilion, which will officially take place on March 1, 2011.[1] DPH1110 (talk) 18:07, 12 January 2011 (UTC)DPH1110[reply]

Where was the name change information coming from? I went to a concert at the Arco Arena in late April of 2011. It had not yet changed the name. --Jimv1983 (talk) 22:38, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest changing name of article back to Arco Arena

[edit]

In light of the fact that renaming has been delayed indefinitely (as announced today), perhaps the article title should be changed back to Arco Arena (the familiar name) and text added regarding the impending uncertainty of the complex name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.133.86.38 (talk) 00:31, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Based on today's revelations it seems prudent to switch the name back for now until an actual renaming occurs. Gateman1997 (talk) 01:00, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually based on further research it seems the name has been changed to Power Balance for now (at least until the Kings make their decision on whether to stay or go). If the Kings move to Anaheim the name will change again as Power Balance's entire strategic partnership is with the Kings and will move south with them. If the team stays it will remain Power Balance Pavilion and the names will go up on the outside. Gateman1997 (talk) 01:06, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That said, it is still referred to as ARCO Arena. If you're in Sacramento and you ask where the Power Balance Pavilion is... no one would know what you were talking about. Gingermint (talk) 00:56, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Home of the Sacramento Kings

[edit]

Yeah, the Kings might go to Anaheim, but do we have to look at "Succeeded by Honda Center" at the bottom of the page? Can we wait until it is a fact before jumping the gun? I am not going to remove it but I suggest it be removed until that becomes fact.Toyz1988 (talk) 19:54, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to whoever corrected the issue I mentioned above. Also, I was wondering if we could bring back some of the information that was on here prior to the switch to PBP. There was some info on the arena being called "Echo Arena" by Sacramentans. There were other cool "factoids" like this. I thought that gave the article a little flavor, while also being infomative. If anyone has that bit of the article that was removed, I request that it be included even though it is no longer a play on the actual name of the arena.Toyz1988 (talk) 16:10, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about the factoids. Sacramento is my hometown and I'd called it "echo arena" for well over a decade. Here's a source from the Sacramento Bee which mentions the nickname if that helps anyone. badmonkey (talk) 07:56, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Protect this article?

[edit]

i would appreciate it if someone could lock this page or protect it until Maloofs announce a move, because people keep changing things from tenants. The kings still play in the arena and nobody has announced a definate relocation. On the Sacramento Kings article too, if its not already locked. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.170.24.247 (talk) 16:50, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Change name of article to Sleep Train Arena?

[edit]

Sleep Train owns the naming rights now, and the arena will be called Sleep Train Arena. Need to change the name of the article, again. http://www.kcra.com/news/Power-Balance-out-Sleep-Train-Arena-in-Kings-venue-to-change-name/-/11797728/16997124/-/15fcxrn/-/index.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.22.38 (talk) 00:11, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Once the name change is official it should be moved. But it won't be until next month. Gateman1997 (talk) 00:13, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Golden 1 Center

[edit]

With the new arena on the horizon, just remember that Sleep Train Arena is still the current arena for the Kings, so even though the 2016 date is sourced and likely to happen, the tenant list on this article should still say "present" until the current season is over and the Kings officially leave Sleep Train Arena. "Present" indicates "current", while adding an ending year suggests they no longer play there. Likewise on Golden 1 Center, "present" shouldn't be used until the current 2015–16 season is over since the Kings currently don't play there. --JonRidinger (talk) 17:12, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Closure as arena

[edit]

Since this building has been permanently closed, at least as a sports arena and concert venue, I would suggest to change the tense on everything suggesting ongoing operation, like PBR being "held there every year," as this is no longer true at all. If you know things about this to the contrary and have editing privileges, please feel free to reverse anything that is wrong, but there seem to be plenty of links to reliable sources indicating that future arena use (or any other, except perhaps as an emergency pandemic hospital) is very unlikely. 72.106.155.46 (talk) 21:07, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Demolition proposal

[edit]

A demolition of the arena has been proposed by the California Northstate University.

According to the Elk Grove Citizen California Northstate University officials on June 16, 2021 announced their plan to have a 13-story teaching hospital built on the site of Sleep Train Arena - a former home of the Sacramento Kings. The Sacramento Kings, in partnership with the university and the city of Sacramento, last week announced the plan for the hospital/medical center, which will be located on 35 developable acres that were donated to CNU by the Kings. As part of the project, the arena will be demolished. Sleep Train ArenaARCO Arena – Was known as ARCO Arena for most of its history, making it the common name amongst the fans even after its naming rights changes. As the arena is slated for demolition within the next six months, the Sacramento Kings are holding a special "Farewell to ARCO Arena" event on March 19, sealing that name once and for all as the WP:COMMONNAME. (which it will remain long after the building is demolished) Tom Danson (talk) 04:33, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
