Surab District (Balochi: سۏراپ), (Brahui and Urdu: سوراب), is a district located in central Balochistan province, Pakistan. Prior to its creation as a separate district in 2017, Surab was part of Kalat District.[2]

Administration[edit]

The town of Surab serves as the headquarters of the district.

Demographics[edit]

At the time of the 2017 census the district had 25,170 households and a population of 200,752. Surab had a sex ratio of 961 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 44.46% - 53.17% for males and 35.37% for females. 35,597 (17.72%) lived in urban areas. 87,269 (43.47%) were under 10 years of age. 48 (0.02%) people in the district were from religious minorities. Brahui was the predominant language, spoken by 98.57% of the population.[1]

Surab is largely based on a tribal society and one of the main tribes would be the Muhammad Hassani tribe.
