about Chronicles

"Pokémon Chronicles, also known in Japan as Pokémon Side Story (ポケモンサイドストーリー, Pokemon Saido Sutōrī)" I bet that's wrong, cause it implies that Pokémon Chronicles and Pocket Monsters Side Story is the same and that's not true. 1. it's Pocket Monsters Side Story not Pokémon Side Story or ポケットモンスター サイドストーリー in japanese (like at ja.wiki) and 2. Pokémon Chronicles and Pocket Monsters Side Story is not the same (Pokémon Chronicles in the west is made out of Pocket Monsters Side Story, the Raikou special and some Pikachus shorts (or more concrete some of Pikachu's Winter Vacation, although one of these shorts is not really part of Winter Vacation) + it looks like the order of the episodes in Pokémon Chronicles is changed). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.5.213.42 (talk) 18:15, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is correct. I changed the segment a bit to clear up the misconception, and added a separate section of Pokemon Broadcasting Station, which was absolutely notable for more than just being "that show Pokemon Chronicles took some specials from". 80.213.253.167 (talk) 12:25, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Best Wishes! films, installment numbers

Technically, Victini and the Black Hero: Zekrom and Victini and the White Hero: Reshiram are suppose to be two alternate fourteenth Pokemon Movies.

So, please change the movie numbers for them from 14 & 15 to 14A & 14B on your list of the Pokemon Movies to avoid confusion. MB2T1 (talk) 03:00, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unlike some other sites, we don't really number them. But seeing as they're on the same release day and ticket, I've changed it from "14 & 15" to just "14".—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:31, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Post audio production

I believe Seasons 1-5 were done with TAJ Productions (TAJ used Buttons Sound, Inc.'s recording facilities for Season 1) after Season 5 4Kids took over the recording. After TPCi took over TAJ reaccquired the series however they disbanded after Season 10. After TAJ's departure DuArt Film & Video took over Matthew Cantrell (talk) 23:45, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While that's nice, it is not important to incorporate this into the article. Also, the Japanese companies would be more important than the dub.—Ryulong (竜龙) 00:12, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lede confusion

I do not understand the last part of the following sentence:

Originally a single series, Pokémon, it has since been made into four series, the original series, then Advanced Generation, subsequently Diamond and Pearl and Best Wishes, which sequentially continue the story of Pokémon, while its spin-off Pokémon Smash! (formerly Weekly Pokémon Broadcasting Station and Pokémon Sunday) has broadcast a series of stories revolving around some of the recurring characters, Pokémon Chronicles or, as it is known in Japan, Pokémon Side Story.

It’s as if the author lost track of whether they were writing about Pokémon Smash! or Pokémon Chronicles. Besides the sentence is way too long. It should be broken up into three sentences, one for each series separately. Rod Lockwood (talk) 14:53, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's been changed. In the future, try not to add onto old sections.—Ryulong (竜龙) 19:26, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Children's anime

There is no need to say "children's anime" in the lede. Just saying "anime" shall suffice. 76.106.238.126 (talk) 06:09, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Its meant for young children (kindergarteners), as opposed to other anime which are meant for elementary school children or young adults or meant for women. It's staying. Just because you believe it has cross generational appeal doesn't change the fact that it has an intended audience.—Ryulong (琉竜) 06:56, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do you honestly think it's targeted towards kindergarteners? Come on now. Its targeted audience is probably elementary and middle schoolers. 76.106.238.126 (talk) 19:15, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's meant for children of all ages. Which means it's not shonen or shojo and definitely not seinen.—Ryulong (琉竜) 03:30, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Updating transcluded table

Hello. I'm AmericanLemming, and I've noticed that the article body and the table on the TV series are not in agreement. The article proper says "the current international season airing is Pokemon the Series: XY, while the table claims that BW: Adventures in Unova and Beyond is still on air. My understanding is that the former is correct, while the latter is not. I would update the table myself, but I don't know where to find it. Oftentimes when things are transcluded, there's a link to the original page, but I don't see that here. AmericanLemming (talk) 08:12, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hungama TV in the infobox

All online research informs me that Hungama TV's broadcast of Pokémon is not English language. Hungama TV is not an English language broadcaster. It does not matter that they are dubbing over the American version. Hungama broadcasts only in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil, so it does not belong in the "English network" section of the infobox.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 18:06, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Series directors

Let's add the other series directors (including Yuji Asada, who shared the credit with Sutou during the last twenty episodes of Diamond & Pearl). It makes no sense not to include them, given we list Yuyama Kunihiko who has less day-to-day influence with the series. People come to the internet to learn. Having more information, especially about the core staff of each of the five-plus TV series is a good thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yūgi's Black Magician (talkcontribs) 05:13, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a reference that provides factual support that Yuji Asada was a director of Diamond & Pearl. Anime News Network I leave it to others to decide if all directors should be included in this article.--Nowa (talk) 16:46, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Stop fucking stalking my edits Nowa.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 17:08, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And the fact of the matter is, we do not need to list someone who is only responsible for directing 20 out of 850 episodes. The directors other than Yuyama may have had a reason to be listed here but none of them have articles locally. He is executive director. He's the only one we are sure about. Anyone else involved in the production is unimportant for such a basic article.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 17:13, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You don't seem to understand. Asada is one of two series directors (the role of overseeing the creative process), but he has personally acted as episode director on more episodes than any of the other series directors. He personally directed and storyboard five of those last twenty episodes of Diamond & Pearl. Some Japanese cartoons are only thirteen episodes, so I don't see how being credited as a series director for twenty is any worse. The fact that Sutou Norihiko and Yuyama Kunihiko felt Asada was worthy of this recognition goes to show just how much they valued his contributions. The screen capture of the fansub was not ideal, but it was nevertheless a good enough source. Laymen don't look up information about children's cartoons from foreign countries on the internet, people who want to learn do. Let's teach. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yūgi's Black Magician (talkcontribs) 02:27, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pokémon (anime)Pokémon (TV series) – Per the first line of this article, it is about a "television series". This brings it under Wikipedia:Naming conventions (television)#Series television. Being a project-wide guideline, WP:NCTV necessarily will have to override the conflicted direction given at MOS:ANIME. Netoholic @ 07:14, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support More consistent. Also generally seems to be more recognizable - searching google books for Pokemon tv series finds more general books while pokemon anime finds few results in specialized books. Essentially I'm looking at what the title should be, and the new title is better on all WP:CRITERIA (being policy overrules so-to-speak all naming conventions). Galobtter (pingó mió) 07:36, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as anime is just a type of animation (Western, rubber hose, live-action, etc.), and there is no other Pokémon TV series, especially not ones that premiered in 1997 like this one. ToThAc (talk) 14:37, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. WP:NCTV is the relevant guideline here. No reason to make an exception for this genre. --woodensuperman 14:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The page as currently written covers not just the Pokemon TV series, but all animated parts of the Pokemon franchise. This includes the movies, and even includes some parts of the franchise that are not in the same continuity as the TV series (such as Pokemon Generations). I don't think WP:NCTV addresses a situation like the one in this article, where the article is neither about a single piece of a franchise nor the franchise as a whole, but instead a subset of the franchise (in this case all animated parts of the franchise). I don't think the current name contradicts WP:NCTV in any way, and I can't think of a better disambiguator for this page than "anime", so my opinion is that we should keep it as is. Calathan (talk) 23:23, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This article is about one series and its continuations. Many television shows have spin-offs and also films that act as additional stories/continuations of those series - they still use (TV series). There already is an article at Pokémon that covers the entire franchise across all media, so if there is any content in this article that isn't directly connected to this single television series, it should be moved off into the main franchise article, but my reading is that isn't the case and all this content is related to this series. -- Netoholic @ 23:48, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is some content in the page that isn't directly connected to the main TV seriese (as I said above), and I disagree that it needs to be moved elsewhere. This article is about all the anime in the Pokemon franchise, and I don't see any reason why that should change. I disagree that WP:NCTV suggests this page or any page like it, which cover a large number of related titles in one franchise, should be labeled as "(TV series)". It simply isn't like any of the articles described in WP:NCTV, which anticipated franchise articles and articles on individual series, but not something like this which is half way in-between. Calathan (talk) 00:46, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you’re sure that not all of the works discussed here take place in the same universe(s) as the TV series(es), I recommend that the unrelated works be removed from here and added to Pokémon proper. They aren’t even all anime, so the same objection applies to the current title. —67.14.236.50 (talk) 01:11, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • The proposal says NCTV is “a project-wide guideline,” but WT:NCTV shows it to be under the scope of a wikiproject just like MOS:ANIME. Regardless, I support the move per NCTV and WP:CONSISTENCY, and the silliness of pretending an anime series on TV is not a TV series. —67.14.236.50 (talk) 23:56, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now, if you want to move this article then lets do things right. The "Movies", "Spin-offs", and "Variety shows" would have to be split off as unrelated. The term "tv series" believe it or not is narrow compared to anime which is "animation". All I am asking is that you don't make a heap of work for other editors to do without first coming up with an after plan. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:30, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no call or need to split off those things. If they relate to the continuity of the main TV series, its fine to list them here. Knight Rider (1982 TV series) has an extensive list of spin-offs, TV movies, etc. all based on the main TV series. There is separately a Knight Rider franchise page which lists things in the wider universe. There is overlap, and that's fine. That's no reason to oppose this rename, you're taking this to an extreme which isn't warranted. -- Netoholic @ 04:03, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can you provide me with a GA or FA example? If we are going by WP:OFFTOPIC then it would only require a mention or two in a paragraph describing spinoffs. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 04:26, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thunderbirds (TV series) and Dark Angel (TV series) are featured articles which are disambiguated. They include information on spin-offs, movies, and other media like games all based on the series. -- Netoholic @ 04:33, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weakly oppose - Some of it (e.g. movies, spin-offs, variety shows) aren't necessarily also TV shows. Besides, "Pokémon anime" is pretty darn recognizable. Paintspot Infez (talk) 17:40, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Aren't many of the spin-offs and stuff not even anime; from searching pokemon tv show seems more recognizable to a general audience based on usage in sources. Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:48, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for now per Calathan; the proposed name would not match the scope. I have no opposition to a split, and doing one might be a good idea.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  21:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Page split

As suggested by the move discussion above, this page seems to have become a repository for information on all animation produced within the Pokemon franchise. This scope is broad, and conflicts with the lead sentence which implies this is about the 1997 TV series. Any content not related to that TV series (episodes, tie-in films that follow the continuity, etc.) should be split off so that the focus can be sharper. The proposall to rename to Pokémon (TV series) per WP:NCTV still stands, once any unrelated animations are moved to either the main franchise page, film list, or perhaps a companion article to be created. -- Netoholic @ 12:58, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the proposal to rename the page to Pokémon (TV series). This whole article is a bit too big.-- Timur9008 (talk) 16:16, 29 July 2018 (UTC).[reply]

Controversy on episode 38 of the 19th series

In the section about the controversy on episode 38 of the 19th series there is a dead link which should rather point to this link, furthermore the article doesn't mention multiple animation directors at all, just one of the 43 animation directors, Aito Oohashi. I think this should be corrected to avoid bias.--95.236.236.184 (talk) 12:19, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The plot section says that Brock travels with Ash to Sinnoh at the beginning of season 10. Doesn't he reunite with Ash a couple or so episodes into season 10? New anime?

There’s no source that says this is the end of the 1997 anime. There’s editors going around shoehorning that this is a new "2019 anime" when it could easily be just another "series" of the 1997 anime. Plus, the 2019 "anime" is NOT a reboot, continuity from the other series remains.
