TFL notification

Hi, Reywas. I'm just posting to let you know that List of National Historic Landmarks in Indiana – a list that you have been heavily involved with – has been chosen to appear on the Main Page as Today's featured list for March 25. The TFL blurb can be seen here. If you have any thoughts on the selection, please post them on my talk page or at TFL talk. Regards, Giants2008 (Talk) 03:49, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looney Lists

I suppose I have it backwards, but my plan was to split off the bit that I did and make List of people who have walked on the Moon, and then replace the section in List of Apollo astronauts with a summary. I planned to do the same with People who flew to the Moon without landing. Then, I planned to fill List of Apollo astronauts with information on who was selected for what mission, who was peeved they were not selected when they thought they should have been, maybe talk a bit about the decision on who would walk first, talk a bit about the cancelled Apollo missions. My general thought was after I finish the two sub-lists (people who walked on the Moon and people who flew to the Moon without landing), and after I finish List of Apollo astronauts, if the three combined together is still a relatively short article I can always remerge them at that time. I thought it would be easier to deal with them as separate entities at first so sections like Lunar activities could be written easier.

Overall, it does not matter to me all that much how it is all formatted and broken out in the end, so long as the content is somewhere and readers can find it. I am not the master-of-all over all things astronaut related, after all :). Cheers, and good work on the Indiana articles. Kees08 (Talk) 06:30, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm that could work to see how they develop. I saw on the talk page that you do have some good ideas on what else to add there. My experience as a FLC regular (and in my own lists) is that a lot of subarticle lists end up having a lead full of fun facts/stats just gleamed from the table itself (like oldest/youngest person, etc) that don't really add new information but are sort of prose filler in addition to introductions copied from a main article if there is one. There isn't an article that specifically covers details of the lunar activities (rather, split across the mission articles) so that would definitely be something good to summarize (Apollo_program#Production_lunar_landings is relatively short on that, and then there's List of spacewalks and moonwalks 1965–1999), but I wonder if that's better with an astronaut focus or a mission focus. I'm just generally of the wiki-philosophy that articles/lists on connected topics should be consolidated as much as practicable and split only when it gets too long to reduce duplication. Plus with how the missions work, Aldrin and Armstrong shouldn't necessarily be split up from Collins and so on! Just depends how these may be treated as companion articles or subarticles of each other but additional info beyond the tables could justify certain organizations. (sorry for the out-of-the-gate shutdown, Boiler up!) Reywas92Talk 07:00, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why - your Rio de la Mina article move was undone by me. Because....

Hi. Thank you for redirecting Río de la Mina (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) to Río de la Mina (Río Grande, Puerto Rico) (with the í). I had originally undone your move because your original move had redirected the article to List of rivers of Puerto Rico. --the eloquent peasant (talk) 20:29, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dingell Act

@Reywas92: I was deep into an article on the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act when I finally thought to check if someone else was already working on it, and I see that you are. I'm going to stop, rather than duplicate effort or step on toes, but you're welcome to grab any part of the draft I've been working on. Schazjmd (talk) 19:35, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in the bill on Wikipedia! Thanks for working on it too, I'll see how we can merge them this weekend. I based the article structure on the 2009 omnibus bill. Reywas92Talk 02:36, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nutrition

I cross checked prior to performing the merge to the article. Most or all of the amino acids and fats in the Outline section are not in the main article. I think I agree with the removal of the sugars. However, virtually all of the content that was merged is not duplicated elsewhere in the article. Again, I cross checked to make sure.

The merge was done because the result at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Outline of nutrition was to merge, not merge only a small portion. Ironically, the encyclopedia would have been better off with a standalone Outline article, which actually received decent page views 1,360 in the last thirty days. Please do not revert the merge, as I took the time to ensure it was done properly. North America1000 03:27, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think I did something wrong and you might not have gotten pinged with my 03:32, 1 April 2019 (UTC) post at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2019_March_28#Template:Members_of_the_U.S._House_of_Representatives_from_New_York--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 03:35, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seabee

You removed the identifier from each of the images citing "non-standard". Please cite the MOS specifically. Thank you. Mcb133aco (talk) 18:13, 2 April 2019 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk) 18:13, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Images should be adjacent to the text which they illustrate. Well-written prose and captions would make it obvious what the pictures relate to. This are not figures in an academic journal paper and readers can connect them on their own. Reywas92Talk 18:32, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, please cite MOS specifically without regard to your POV. Your POV is INTELLECTUALLY PRESUMPTUOUS and is not reflected in the Encyclopedia Britannica. There you will find the articles edited exactly as the Seabee article was. Since Wikipedia does not have a youth edition the reading level and format should be accessible to the widest audience not just the academically advanced. From that POV, your edits amount to vandalism and should be reverted.

Mcb133aco (talk) 19:15, 2 April 2019 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk) 19:15, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Actually there is a sort of youth edition: Simple English Wikipedia[1]. I would say to take your POV there, but its readers are apparently academically advanced enough to connect the text to the images without "Fig." labels. Every article on Wikipedia (Why are you bringing up Britannica? Utterly irrelevant, but also inaccurate (No "Fig." here).) is perfectly fine without "Fig." labels; are you implying you think the general public is not smart enough to understand how pictures work? I do not appreciate your failure to WP:Assume good faith, this is clearly not vandalism. Reywas92Talk 21:23, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You have still failed to provide a citation for your edit from the MOS please do so.Mcb133aco (talk) 22:55, 2 April 2019 (UTC)mcb133acoMcb133aco (talk) 22:55, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion is welcome at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style#Labeling_images_as_"Figures"_in_captions. This is unusual enough no one at MOS has bothered to explicitly forbid it, but that doesn't mean such non-standard use is necessary here, helpful, or entirely permitted. WP:FLC Request

Hi, I noticed you recently reviewed List of felids for WP:FL, and was wondering if you would be willing to review another, similar article on a plant genus, List of Hypericum species. I just opened the review page and would be much obliged to have your preliminary thoughts or comprehensive review. Thank you for your time, Fritzmann2002 T, c, s, t 18:46, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am leaving you a notice here since you reverted some of my edits on this page. Given that this is a biographical article, we need to be careful enough to ensure that the page is written in a neutral and dispassionate tone. According to WP:BLP, the burden of evidence is on the editor adding or restoring content to a biography of a living person. I invite you to propose and discuss changes on the talk page prior to reverting other users. I have also initiated a thread on WP:BLPN to discuss this article with other editors to ensure that it does not become a WP:COATRACK of controversies, with WP:UNDUE emphasis on criticisms that the subject of the biography has received. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 21:03, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act

On 11 April 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Merging

Hi I see that two lists, namely List of scientists whose names are used as SI units and List of scientists whose names are used as non SI units were merged. Well, that's possible. However wouldn't it be a bit more polite if the creator had been notified beforehand? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 06:59, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No. Do you have a complaint about it? Is being WP:BOLD not okay? Seems pretty obvious that readers would be better served with them in one place. This was the consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lists of scientists whose names are used as SI units and non SI units anyway. Reywas92Talk 17:54, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Next time please inform the creators before merging. Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk)

Shoot I'm sorry this guy is so awful, the Street Roots stuff is simply petulant and vexatious, there's nothing wrong with the prior state of it. Yes, I think ANI would be an acceptable place to post to get more eyes on him. Reywas92Talk 18:29, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. In 10+ years of editing, I've never experienced with much obstruction by a single editor. I'm not even sure where to begin at the admin noticeboard, but I'll give some thought to putting something together. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:32, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 24

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Non-visa travel restrictions, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Facial recognition (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Question

Have you removed the other states' similar pages or are you just targeting Tennessee? Also I am going to copy the page completely to the "List of Municipalities in Tennessee" page. --ACase0000 (talk) 03:36, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not "targeting" anything except needless duplication. But I did merge List of towns in Oklahoma and List of towns and cities in Oklahoma by population into List of cities and towns in Oklahoma too. Unclear why you'd need to copy the page when it's already there in the sortable table but I won't contest that. Reywas92Talk 04:27, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. I am sorry. --ACase0000 (talk) 05:14, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be sorry, ACase0000...he just got done trying it in Indiana, where he was soundly rebuffed. Magnolia677,CoalTown Guy, this should interest you. John from Idegon (talk) 03:31, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Irrelevant, dummy. That was merging redundant lists, not the items within it – all of which are actual incorporated towns and cities with statistics from the census bureau, not neighborhoods and housing developments with no sources about them beyond their existence on a map. Reywas92Talk 03:45, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Reywas, you're an experienced Wikipedian so you'll know that it's normal practice under WP:BRD to go to the talk page if our 'bold' edit is reverted. That avoids futile edit wars. We're also encouraged to be WP:CIVIL, which means inter alia not implying that other editors are idiots when it comes to grammar. So I'd be grateful if you'd revert your latest edit and discuss on the talk page a form of words that we can both accept. Bermicourt (talk) 21:39, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! AdamPrideTN (talk) 07:04, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It should be removed, that doesn't fit the article's criteria of being out while in office, and we do not need to give space to a professional propagandist. Reywas92Talk 17:13, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! You made this into a null redirect to COROP, which at least stops anyone adding it as a circular link, but shouldn't it be deleted? Like "Rest of..." this is the Dutch for "Rest of...", so the titles have been erratically translated or not. A redirect to COROP means only that the natural expression dutch("Rest of Zeeland") appears in the article. But it probably appears elsewhere too; if you want to know where an expression appear, a redirect is not the tool. Can't we PROD these all? Imaginatorium (talk) 18:10, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eh redirects are cheap and easier than waiting but yes, prod would work well too if you think it's better not to leave these. Reywas92Talk 18:32, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AFD discussion

You don't need to be so rude to me on the deletion discussion for Elk Plaza, Oklahoma. Its really not necessary to say "very shoddy", which is insulting to me as I have spent a lot of time on here. The article was created over 5 years ago, so you really do not need to act like this. You can just state the reasons you want it to be deleted without saying that.--Seacactus 13 (talk) 16:38, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

National Native American Veterans Memorial

I created a new topic for the National Native American Veterans Memorial on the National Museum of the American Indian page. I aspire to create a new wiki page for this memorial. I see you've devoted much time to the List of National Monuments of the United States. Your help with a new page for this future memorial would be much appreciated.Denise B-K (talk) 18:24, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Denisebk[reply]

Denisebk At this point I don't believe the memorial is independently notable; all content is still within the scope of the museum and it can be covered perfectly well at that article. Perhaps when it is completed and dedicated there will be more coverage in third-party sources, but until then there's no need for a split. Reywas92Talk 22:03, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I was a poor communicator... I made note for myself so I'd follow-up on the National Native American Veterans Memorial in November 2020. I wrote you for the same reason, to please keep it mind next year. Thanks. Denise B-K (talk) 07:30, 19 June 2019 (UTC)denisebk[reply]
Great, I'd take another look at it then, I have the museum on my watchlist. Reywas92Talk 07:36, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Few questions

Since you seem to be doing work on subdivisions of different countries for quite some time, I've to ask something. Do you think the subdivision list articles need to be separated from the main articles of countries that don't have particularly long articles about them? For example Nauru or Niue? Do List of villages in Niue need to be separate from the main article? The main article itself isn't very long. It'll be quite easy to get that list of FL status if someone tries, but it'll be no use if it gets merged to Niue because there isn't a lot to say about Niue, it's article is short. List of settlements of Nauru lists historic villages of Nauru, most of them don't exist anymore, and the source is one book. There isn't a List of districts of Nauru (or Districts of Nauru, you seem to like it this way) yet, but does it need to be created? Or it's okay to just leave everything in the main Nauru article? Regards, TryKid (talk) 06:37, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed that Districts of Nauru redirects to main Nauru page, most likely as a result of someone merging it to the main article. So I guess that partly answers my question, but it'll be great to hear something from you. TryKid (talk) 06:41, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If something can be comfortably merged I'm generally in support of merging it. Nauru is already a featured article and covers its administrative districts well and since these districts don't have their own governments or much more to say about them, I don't think a split is prudent. The settlements list is a bit long and wouldn't merge very well since they're historic, but better sourcing is definitely necessary. I think the Niue villages list is quite short and a merge to the main article would be welcome since it is highly pertinent information, but the main article is also long enough that the current split is still acceptable, especially if there is more to say about them that isn't already there, though separate sourcing is pretty weak given the minimal population. About that Canned Heat edirect

Greetings, Reywas92. You recently emptied out the page List of Canned Heat members and replaced the text with a redirect to List of Canned Heat band members. This would be an action with which I'd probably agree but the result of this AfD discussion was to Keep both articles intact and let the community decide on a Merge. Therefore, I reverted your edit. Lairhillock Inn and Gillybrands

Thank you for starting a deletion discussion for the Lairhillock Inn. I was the one who placed the original "prod" tag, but I guess it got removed because I'm not a registered Wikipedia user. I wonder if you would care to look at Gillybrands, an article about another coaching inn in the same area. This one claims to date back to the 12th century, so it might be notable locally, but the article doesn't really say much about it. Do you think this should be deleted also? --94.196.164.61 (talk) 12:30, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thanks I've nominated it as well. It wasn't because you're not a registered user (which I'd encourage you to do anyway) but because there is an extreme inclusionist who removes countless prod tags without giving any reason even when they sail through AFD. Reywas92Talk 17:50, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see! I suppose an "extreme inclusionist" would argue that these articles don't do much harm, but from my perspective as being chiefly a Wikipedia reader who only occasionally makes comments or edits I would say that the existence of so many articles like these on minor topics makes it harder to find and assess the validity of notable topics. My inclination is never to trust any Wikipedia article that doesn't have a helpful set of references and/or external links for validation. Thanks for your help; I'll make comments in the deletion discussions, though I appreciate that they may not be taken too seriously coming from an "anonymous" contributor. --94.196.164.61 (talk) 16:29, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
