Not able to search for my wiki page

The editor had created an autobiography on their user page and were trying to search for it here and on Google as if it was a Wikipedia article. The page has been deleted and they have been warned about autobiography here. Please don't encourage them to recreate it. General Ization ^Talk 05:35, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Birth date won't work

@Ramesty: I fixed it. It turns out that some of the spaces between birth_date and the equals sign were non-breaking spaces as opposed to regular spaces. I'm not sure how that happened. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 06:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Remy Blumenfeld

Hello Wikipedians, Need Help. Can you please check the article Remy Blumenfeld. There is an editor named User:Justlettersandnumbers reverting all my edits, even when the article complies Wikipedia policy. Even if there is problem, the editor can fix it or add the maintenance tag instead of reverting all my edits. Can anyone help me to resolve the issue. Justlettersandnumbers last removed your content with the explanation "rm a mass addition of promotional content (promotional both in tone and in intent) – WP:neutrality is one of the core principles of this project" and I have to agree with that assessment: the content you are trying to add is full of weasel words and puffery to promote the subject, has bold claims which are unreferenced, reads more like a CV than a biography, and appears not to have been written in an objective way. If you rework it to correct those issues it stands a much better chance of being accepted - but if you are connected to the subject you would be advised to stand back and let someone else do it. Cannot update picture

Category intersection tool?

I am doing a research where I can really benefit from a Wikimedia tool that detects articles that share two or more categories. For example, articles that have both the categories 9th-century mathematicians and Mathematicians from London‎. Piping categories

Is it ever appropriate to add a pipe to a category, like [[Category:Presidents by country|South Africa, President]]? I have come across this a couple of time while editing. It seems that the pipe text is just ignored, so I assume that there is no point in having it there. Leschnei (talk) 20:00, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

How do I cite an article that is in an edited collection of articles

How do I cite an article that is in a collection of similar articles by various authors? Here is the article I want to cite:

Horne, M.A., Shimony, A., and Zeilinger, A. "Introduction to two-particle interferometry." In: Miller, A.I., editor. Sixty-two years of uncertainty. Plenum Preess, 1990, pp. 113-119.

User pages looking like the main page

I looked at today's main page, and was interested in the photo there. When I clicked the photo, it shows all the pages that the photo is used on . I noticed a large number of user pages listed. When I clicked on these user pages, they appear to be mirring the main page. Is that allowed? Here's a few examples, but there are more than this: User:Aniket-Mayur, User:H143, and User:Uzzzwalgautam. RudolfRed (talk) 00:49, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Looking at Uzzzwalgautam's contributions I'd say they're not here to build an encyclopedia. The talk page looks like a vague attempt to push the software to breaking point. Either that or his cat was sat on the keyboard. My cat did that a few weeks ago. I left the room for a few minutes and when I came back he was lounging on my laptop. He'd even managed to change the wallpaper on my lock screen, and I don't even use the lock screen! I was dreading what he might have posted here. nagualdesign 01:29, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

@SANTOSHNGO: Please don't write in all capital letters, it is like shouting. Start by reading WP:YFA and the links there, particularly on notability. Also read the required disclosures at WP:COI and WP:PAID. It is strongly discouraged to write about something you are connected to, and if you are a new user creating a new article is not an easy task. Consider helping to improve Wikipedia by working on existing articles instead. If you decide to move ahead with a new article, then use the wizard at WP:YFA to create a draft that you can work on and then submit for review. RudolfRed (talk) 01:45, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Publish function key did not work for an article 2 weeks old.

Though it has been published/posted (we hit the publish button) 10-12 days ago -- then edited once or twice--we cannot get a response on the article "Joe Martin (Author, director)".

It can be called up immediately in its last edited form with Sources and footnotes, etc, upon log-on. But it cannot be accessed by "readers" apparently.

@Bowie62: Please give a link to the page you refer to. Looking at your contributions, there appears to be a partially completed draft in your user space at User:Bowie62. Pages in userspace are not indexed by search engines and will only display via the search box as a user page. If this is the page you are referring to, it would need quite a bit of work before it would of an acceptable standard for the encyclopedia. The page could be moved to draftspace if necessary so you could continue to develop it. Please also clarify what you mean by 'we'. @Bowie62: By way of information, the 'publish' button does not necessarily publish content to the encyclopedia. Until fairly recently that button said 'save' which is a better description of what it does. You have saved the content to your user space. I would suggest that the content be moved to draftspace as content resembling an article is not really allowed in userspace and it is in danger of being deleted. One term, two different lists of links: Merge

Hello,

there is a page Muflon (Czech) and Mouflon (English). Each of them has a separate list of links to other language (11 links vs. 15). Is there a nice, easy way how to merge the two lists? I understand it's possible to move the links one-by-one, e.g. from the "Czech" list to "English" list or vice versa. But if there is something more elegant, I would choose that and I'm asking for help.

Hello, Barbora. They are attached to two different Wikidata lemmas, d:Q190294 and d:24145539 respectively. If you are satisfied that these do really cover the same thing, then you can go to either of them and pick "Merge with" (under "More"). But in situations like this it is sometimes the case that articles in some languages do not correspond properly with those in other languages - one is more inclusive than the other, or, worse, they have a significant overlap but are really different. If that is the case, you should not attempt to merge the Wikidata items, and can only use the old mechanism for interlanguage links. (edit conflict) The Wikidata items linked in the left pane must be merged: Ovis musimon (Q24145539) and european mouflon (Q993274). Can you confirm a merge is appropriate and which one do you think has the best information, ignoring the current number of language links? I can merge Wikidata items but I'm not a biologist. And with 15 seconds of searching on books.google.com, I found a reference from a reliable source that that is in fact her birthdate.. (that source appears to be used in 25 different articles as a reference and which predates wikipedia by a decade, so it isn't something that comes from us) Now what? Yes, I too had found (presumably) the same ref, and I had initially wondered what to do about it. But it seemed entirely reasonable to simply remove the birth date as requested for the following reasons:

• This is a help desk specifically about "how to use or edit Wikipedia". If they could have edited it, that is the edit they would have (legitimately) made.
• The eras in which certain life events take place helps give them context and such dates remain within the article; indeed, the approximate date of birth is still easily deduced from what is there. But the exact date of birth is an irrelevance and merely trivia.
• Given the legitimacy of the request, to do just the opposite would hardly encourage further participation from either the requester, or others who read the post.

Of course, when I said "there is no guarantee someone won't put it back", that was in anticipation of someone taking a different view. Dorsetonian (talk) 10:18, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Any way to save drafts of content you're working on?

I just spent about an hour fleshing out an article and some sort of bug deleted all the text in the editor, and ctrl+z did nothing. Reopening the article to edit only showed the current state and all my changes were lost.

When you're working on a draft, you can save it by clicking what used to be the "Save changes" button, now labelled "Publish changes". This doesn't publish it in the sense of making it into a public article, it continues to be a draft. The decision to relabel the button was, shall we say, questionable. @BaronBoehm: Maproom refers to a Wikipedia:Draft. I suspect you were working on a live article and only call it a draft because you didn't consider the work to be complete. "Publish changes" on an article goes live for readers immediately. You could copy an incomplete edit to your sandbox on the "Sandbox" link at top of every page. Remove categories if you do this and note the edit is visible to people looking at your sandbox. Or you could copy it to a text editor on your own computer. I often do the latter without saving in the text editor so a computer crash could still lose it. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:17, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Incremental edits are perfectly fine. Save each change. It's easier to reverse individual changes that are no good anyway, without blowing out a bunch of work. Legacypac (talk) 20:31, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

uploading and inserting graphics

Dear colleague!

I created the section "Other quick nomograms" on the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomogram i.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomogram#Other_quick_nomograms but I was unable to upload and insert the three files, namely SinT-nomogram-en.gif, Nomogram-mf-en.gif, Nomogram-BR-x3-en.png, I get the message "Something went wrong" and could not repair this "something".

Despite, I succeeded in uploading similar three files to the Hungarian page https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomogram#Egy%C3%A9b_pontsoros_nomogramok i.e. https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomogram

Sticky AfD entry

The AfD for Kenny Biddle has somehow managed to get stuck in the Science & Tech AfD list, despite the article having been deleted since. Possibly because it went through a review and got an extra bit of code. Anyone know how to remove the entry? I don't want to go poking into unknown category corners here. The category was added manually so I removed it manually.[3] AfD categories are normally added by {{REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE WHEN CLOSING THIS AfD}} which has a telling name. By the way, you can place a colon in front of a category to make an inline link instead of categorising the page: Category:AfD debates (Science and technology). Dispute resolution

From time to time there have been edits/reverts on the nationality of an actor, Kalki Koechlin, owing to conflicting sources (and lack of more and better sources). The issue has been discussed by a handful of editors at the talk page and another editor's talk page, but without any consensus. As this wouldn't qualify at WP:THIRD, would the dispute resolution be an ideal place to take this discussion to even though none of those involved have taken a firm stand as to cause disruptive editing? Our Baseball team won our District, Bi-District and Regional Championship and when to the District 4-A Baseball Championship in Austin,Texas. Coach was extraordinary math teacher and an outstanding baseball coach. He had previously suffered from many bouts of Mononucleosis which handicapped his physical abilities. Adding photos

Just moved to Castellon, Spain. As I discover new things around me, I see that some entries in Wikipedia are not supported by photographs, something I would like to do. I created an account to get involved. When I looked up Plaza Santa Clara (Castellón), I got nuthin. What to do now? Sorry if this is a familiar and old question.

I see that English-language Wikipedia has no article on Plaza Santa Clara, though Spanish-language Wikipedia has es:Plaza Santa Clara (Castellón). I suggest that as a gentle introduction to Wikipedia, you take a picture of the Plaza, upload it to Wikipedia Commons, and then add it to the Spanish-language article. @X1\: I'm not entirely clear on what you are asking, but WP:BRD Neither requires nor encourages reverting changes. You can't use BRD as a reason to revert good-faith edits. Do not engage in an edit war. RudolfRed (talk) 01:41, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

X1\, the chronology here is a bit of a mess, but the general takeaway from WP:BRD is that the point where someone reverts and then starts a discussion about it on the talk page is where re-reverting/changes should cease until the discussion indicates otherwise. Draft not published

Hello! About 1 month ago I created a new entry. After writing the text I submitted it to Wikipedia, and the entry was first publishes as a draft. Since then, I have never heard of it again, and it is still only online as a draft. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sepp_Kipfstuhl Should I do something to get the draft version public as a regular entry? Hi! Editing an article about Kay Kamen I noticed that info differs in different sources. In new source #1 (https://books.google.pt/books?id=pgUvDQAAQBAJ&pg=PR118&lpg=PR118&dq=Kay+Kamen&source=bl&ots=yNpc5nYc0W&sig=yn0oSEqUjDL0hkUeN9ffNF5Glzs&hl=ru&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiX28vknKDZAhVMVxQKHWovBig4ChDoAQhaMAg#v=onepage&q=Kay%20Kamen&f=false) says that Kamen first contacted Walt and Roy Disney offering to "sell their cartoon mouse", and in the previous source it says vice versa (Career section). Another source is #4 in the reflist http://www.cbc.ca/radio/undertheinfluence/summer-series-movie-merchandising-1.3462981 Please help to reveal the TRUTH to make the article verifiable and fair. Hello, Lidiia Kondratieva. I haven't looked at the details, but please bear in mind that Wikipedia deals in verifiability not truth.
