User:Redtigerxyz submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
:I nominate Ssriram mt as Editor of the Week. He has created more than 15 GAs and improved numerous other articles related to Tamil Nadu from 1-2 line stubs/unreferenced start to referenced C/B class articles with good topic coverage. As an editor interested in Hinduism, I have seen him improving articles on Hindu temples up close. Also, he contributes to cities, districts and people articles from the Tamil land. Recently (first week of Sept), I saw him adding 2011 Indian census data in hundreds of Tamil Nadu village, town and city articles and cleaning up the list of minor industries, banks, schools and offices promoting themselves on these articles. He also in tagging and assessing articles from Tamil Nadu for WP India and WP Hinduism. IMO, most of contributions are unsung as he improves/creates articles but almost never nominates for DYK.

Thanks for starting the review off the Sivaji ganesan film. But I think we'll have to put the review on hold now, I have exams till Saturday :( ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 03:04, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

reliable sources

are u sure these two sites TruthDive and Tamilstar are reliable? Bcoz they contain valuable info otherwise not found elsewhere. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:42, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maamadurai Potruvm

Hi, I have created a basic page on Maamadurai Potruvom the cultural meet recently held in Madurai. Please look if you can contribute in improving the page.Wasif (talk) 06:44, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

major improvements in Karnan

  • i have reworked the box office section of the article, but is the info from this source [1] correctly written? we could adjust those amounts for inflation i believe.
remove rather than having an unreliable source.
  • i have also re-edited the re-release section, pls check and tell me. also, pls suggest additional details.
    fine.
  • also, the soundtrack section uses this source [2] which displays 17 tracks, should it be used? The New Straits Times critic says the film has 14 songs, wat shud i write? BTW, is the image in soundtrack section usable?
let quote remain in 14, but total is 17.
  • is the critical reception section well edited?
    some more edits.
  • coming to the production section, it says the chariots made for the war sequences were donated to the Brihadeshwara temple in Thanjavur. but the source [3] simply says "Big temple", not Brihadeshwara. wat shud I do??? ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 06:28, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
both are the same. Ssriram mt (talk) 00:34, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The book sources u gave me from here, do not provide full information, and i think u know better than me wat 2 add. i have added only two sources from them. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:10, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the barnstar

Indeed thanks very much Sriram sir :-) But just one last edit request: one IP user added that BR Panthulu confirmed Karnan was a commercial failure, and compensated for its losses through Aayirathil Oruvan (1965 film). I cannot find any source for the claim except this: [4], can it still be added? Kailash29792 (talk) 04:14, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can keep improving the article - but always have reliable sources. I would suggest having books, rather than contrasting/unreliable websites for older movies. The above one seems unreliable, so avoid it. Also, you can keep an eye on the article for any vandal/unreliable edits. Ssriram mt (talk) 04:19, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Over here, I have noticed that Karnan still seems assessed as "B-class" under WikiProject India and WikiProject Film. can u pls re-assess it to GA, now that the film passed the review? Kailash29792 (talk) 05:31, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Felt bot would take care - seems you have adjusted, thanks. Ssriram mt (talk) 12:43, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ssriram mt, I'm beginning the copy-edit you requested to the above article at the GOCE request page. Please feel free to contact me, and to correct or revert my changes if I'm doing something incorrectly. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 06:47, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done - please feel free to contact me about any issues arising from the copy-edit. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 15:30, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Post GA

although Karnan 1964 appears complete, there is often no end to editing bcoz Wikipedia is a work in progress. i have added this source from Sulekha.com, [5], is it reliable? also, in the box office section I have added two sources which state that the film was a box office failure in 1964, pls check that. i have updated the re-release section with M. Suganth (Times of India) and Baradwaj Rangan's reviews on the restored Karnan. pls check them also. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 11:05, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure - keep adding. Also, as you have been doing, try to get other articles to GA status. Sulekha - i have my own doubts. Ssriram mt (talk) 13:35, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am also interested in elevating Parasakthi to GA status, you are welcome to help. But a GA review will not do now. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:41, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Professional editor Vensatry has stated that Mohan Raman's FB source may be used for Karnan article, pls see this User talk:Vensatry#authenticated source ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 13:32, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, np. Ssriram mt (talk) 03:00, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I see that Sakthi Krishnasamy (who wrote the dialogues) is credited as the only writer of the film, although this source [6] states that A.S. Nagarajan was one of the three writers, the other two being Sakthi (dialogues) and Kannadasan (lyrics). should I add it? Kailash29792 (talk) 05:49, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Kannadasan can be left out as a writer as he is mentioned in soundtrack section. Ssriram mt (talk) 13:13, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
but can the source still be used? pls check it. I also found this [7], but I doubt its reliability. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:41, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
doesn't seem reliable.Ssriram mt (talk) 02:08, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sriram sir, please see the new edits i made in the article and make corrections (if any needed) ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 08:36, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

<<moved to main You are very welcome. I believe my good friend User:Nvvchar spent some time in Tamil Nadu. He might be interested in promoting things like temples to GA. I'd be happy to help you with anything you want, as India given it size especially badly needs more quality articles. I see you are also interested in movies, I created the lists of Tamil films and all Indian movies a while back, they're steadily growing, but most of the films still stubs! more on karnan

I have added more info to the article Karnan (1964), and I would like u to see if it is all well written. pls examine the article thoroughly. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:54, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for making all corrections sir. i also believe this sentence was well written: The battle scenes were shot with troupes of the 61 Cavalry Regiment, using 80 elephants, 400 horses and three cameras. (source: [8]). additionally, i have to include home media section within release section, as inspired by Lage Raho Munna Bhai (a featured article). the awards karnan received should also have a separate section, again inspired by Lage Raho. i prefer this source [9] also be added to home media. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 15:22, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Let the content grow before having as a separate section. Any case, avoid one line sections.Ssriram mt (talk) 15:56, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About removal of a photograph

Hi Sriram,

I am a newbie to the Wiki, and when i notices the effort taken by many to keep this project uptodat, i thought i have to do my share. So i shared some photographs to wiki commons.

I added a photograph of Kunthukaal Vivekananda Temple, but noticed that it has been removed by you.

I am new here, so don't know the policies well, so i will be thankful to you if you let me know whether there is a policy violation from my part.

Kunthukaal Vivekananda Temple is situated near Pamban, Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu state of India. Having a fabulous natural beauty and a spiritual atmosphere, this place became the favourite tourist and pilgrim spot for those visiting Rameswaram

Rameswaram

Hi Sriram,

Thanks for your kind guidance. I added it there since while I visited that place (It is around 2 KM from Pamban) i came to know that, the place has historical significance in indian as well as hindu history. From what I heard from the temple, Vivekananda Landed there after his first visit to USA, and rolled on ground to purify himself with the sacred sand of Bharat. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TWXrcNzkFA)

Can you please give me a little guidance to how i can create a new page for that temple? Thanks in advance :-)

Parasakthi

sorry to keep bothering u abt improvements, but it is my aim to elevate Sivaji Ganesan's Parasakthi to the best. That is why i have started a peer review on it, and if u know anything abt the film, pls suggest improvements. I don't know which wiki editor knows much abt Sivaji's films. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:12, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have heavily updated the article, sir. Please check it from top to bottom and see if everything is well written. additionally, pls suggest improvements here. If not interested, pls tell me. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 15:39, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Hello, Ssiram. I'm the GA reviewer for Nagore Dargah, and have opened the review with no content as of yet. Do you mind if I wait a few days before beginning? I am going to be busy in real life through Wednesday, and would like some time to try and work through this page. It looks good, but there are some issues I think we can resolve with prose, grammar, and content placement. dci | TALK 00:02, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Unfortunately, a closer review brings up a few too many issues with the article to allow me to pass it. I would strongly encourage you to seek a copyedit (perhaps with the GOCE group) prior to renominating it. dci | TALK 22:32, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the outcome

I included comments after the relevant sections in the checklist. I still feel that there are sufficient problems in the areas of grammar and spelling (and consistency in each) to prevent the article from being promoted. While I do not want to reopen the review at this time, I will do so if you can fix the problems. I'm not particularly concerned about time limits, but the article needs to be significantly improved to reach GA status. If you'd like a more detailed layout of problems, I can provide one. dci | TALK 00:56, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, given that we're going forward with reopening the review, you probably shouldn't do the GOCE yet. It would be a bit awkward to have an article at GOCE and at GAN at the same time. Sorry if I confused you with my recommendation above; it was relevant only if the article was not promoted. dci | TALK 01:09, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article is progressing quite nicely. I don't have too much more to comment on (one or two things in the Festivals section), but can't spend much time on Wikipedia this evening and will have to complete the review tomorrow. —Theodore! (talk) (contribs) 21:56, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I greatly appreciate the barnstar; I would also like to express my sincere apologies to you for the amount of time the review took. Tito Dutta (contact) 22:35, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Woo, hoo all problem solved! Recently I have 5x expanded Ajit Singh of Khetri and submitted for DYK. Alasinga should be another DYK candidate. நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கிறீர்கள் ? He was a great Tamil Indian! When Swami Vivekananda had financial trouble in America, he literally begged from door to door to collect money for Vivekananda' America's expenses (that Chicago lecture, America England lectures of Vivekananda became history later and we aer still celebrating)! Great person! --Tito Dutta (contact) 08:27, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And just curious, I was surprised to see you did not identify the name of Alasinga first. Are people of Tamil Nadu forgetting the great Alasinga? He is a familiar name in West Bengal! --Tito Dutta (contact) 08:28, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Azhagiya Singar is more popular in TN. This can definitely get in DYK.Ssriram mt (talk) 11:56, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kasare, Parner

I'm curious, last year (May 2012) when you assessed the article at Talk:Kasare, Parner you included Gujarat as a point of interest for the article in the WikiProject India template. I was going to remove the Gujarat reference because I could not see the connection, but thought that I'd ask first. --Bejnar (talk) 10:26, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the same. Ssriram mt (talk) 00:55, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re:barnstar

Hi! Thank you. You are submitting the article for goce, that's good. What's the goal? FAC? In that case, I'd say this will need more work. Just goce won't do,it. You have to really read through the references for more content, for the sake of comprehensiveness, which was not a problem for ga though.--Dwaipayan (talk) 01:27, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

well, in that case, I'd rather suggest don't put it in goce now. It's already ga level, so has some level of comprehensiveness, and least better prose than majority of wikipedia article. Unless you aim for FA soon, goce is not needed. Actually they are already over burdened. So goce without a defined goal would be burdening them more. Once you add more content, and feel it may be time to go for fac, then goce would be a fruitful option.--Dwaipayan (talk) 02:00, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to jump in, but is Sriram sir having time to take part in Parasakthi peer review? It has greatly developed since the last time he saw it. Kailash29792 (talk) 18:07, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Puppet"

That seems to be a poor edit-summary to use without at least some documentation, preferably a WP:SPI report.

Could you explain how this? If this editor is indeed a sock of someone, we need to document it. --Ronz (talk) 17:29, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

the occurrence is not continuous yet - will report if need be.Ssriram mt (talk) 22:30, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but that doesn't support your edit, let alone a edit summary that assumes bad faith in another editor. --Ronz (talk) 15:29, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changes in Parasakthi

These are the changes u suggested me to do in Parasakthi, and there have been many changes:

  • link congress party
Done linked to Indian National Congress
  • dmk expansion in the first instance
which instance?
  • reference to list of songs?
already there [10]
  • rephrase -"Parasakthi was released on 17 October 1952, coinciding with Diwali day," to "was released on Diwali" - point is it is not coincidental, but planned release. Most big movies release on Diwali even now.
 Done re-written
  • "nicknamed a "silver jubilee" hit." - is it not a common term for all movies running well.
Done removed from lead section, but maintained in "reception and legacy" section ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 08:57, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Tiruvarunai‎ a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Cheers, Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 19:01, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Or, better yet, go and personally explain to an admin (of your choice) the problem and ask him for the necessary measures, I think he will listen to you. BTW, I sympathize with your rationale for undoing that move. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 19:14, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for edits in Prime Minister of India. I must share a concern that there is no enough collaboration in Indian Wikipedia Project. Some of the pages having high importance like the article referred above, President of India, Manmohan Singh and so on which most of them had been already listed in Indian Collaboration of Month without much success. I would do my best to improve these articles, but it would be better if you review and try to suggest points which are within my scope for improvement and also it would be grateful if we bring better collaboration within the project.Suresh 5 (talk) 06:02, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I see lot of book references, will add a few with time.Ssriram mt (talk) 13:00, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, but it would be better, if you suggest any improvements for these high important articles. Also, I think we need much more collaboration (WikiIndia Project) on working those. Suresh 5 (talk) 13:52, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Erode

Hi Sriram, The population that I have entered is the provisional population figure of Erode urban agglomeration released by the census commissioner and not the exaggerated, baseless, unreferenced figure that was mentioned earlier. Also, as I have mentioned in the comments, though the article is better, there are still some statements such as "Erode has important government educational institutes, colleges and schools" which adds no value but seems to be promotional. I think that the tag can remain now and may removed later. Magentic Manifestations (talk) 15:19, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that I removed two sections of the article, since they were taken from [11] and thus violated copyright. In the future, please never use text from external sites which we can not accept. Thank you.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:41, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Pundarikakshan Perumal Temple you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Pundarikakshan Perumal Temple for things which need to be addressed. The review has gone on longer than I'd anticipated, but I think we're getting close now. I've made one further observation about the article's structure, which I'm sure you'll be able to deal with easily, and hopefully we can then knock this on the head. Inappropriate Removal of tag and content

I had found that you had reverted my edits done on Hinduism in Tamil Nadu. The article is tagged to add opinions from multiple streams. The article adds points of view from Shaivism and does not describe worship of Vaishnavism. Hinduism encompassing both should include deities of both sects. Please, don't remove tags without reason. If there are no references, please try to add references and do not remove content. Magentic Manifestations (talk) 14:14, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Karaikudi

Hi - I appreciate your concerns on referenced content. But I have tried to make Wikilinks where they exist and I keep adding references where possible. It is essential that these are kept in a single page as the notable persons sections add value - rather integral - to the main page. A place is known by people who live and sacrifice for the greater good of the community.Karaikudian (talk) 14:46, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have reinstated the references on election history (I personally believe this sort of statistics/information is less meaningful here. Users would rather be benefitted by visiting the election commission site directly, where you have sourced bulk of your references). I see that Madurai /Rameswaram pages that you quoted as examples are very long pages and appropriate to start a separate page on notable persons. Karaikudi being a comparatively shorter article, I strongly believe it could well be an integrated single page. For example, many cities (towns) in Australia of comparable size (including the one where I live) do have a similar Wiki page design.Karaikudian (talk) 15:21, 7 September 2013 (UTC).[reply]

Your GA review of Ashoka's_policy_of_Dhamma

Thanks for your review and comments left at the talk page of the article.

  • (1a)Spelling mistakes: Outlaying and Kinda are not spelling mistakes. Please see, "Outlaying" at dictionary.com, "Kinda" at dictionary.com.
  • (1b)Lead: I'll try making it explanatory.
  • (2a)Duplicate references: Am I supposed to cite a different book for each and every different lines. Once a book cited could not be cited twice?
  • (2b)School books: School books are not reliable? Do they teach us wrong? WP:RS says, textbooks are usually the most reliable sources.
  • (2c)No original research: A non-religious principle Dhamma why seems to be implemented against existing discrimination in Hinduism of that time, and seems co-operative with Buddhism and Jainism, then the answer is in the source cited. It is not a personal opinion. Works of Romila Thapar and Bipin Chandra should be considered a reliable source. Perhaps You read only texts of the article not of the references.
  • (3b)Re-ordering: Re-organizing different sections in the course of the their happening should not be a big deal.
  • (4)Neutral: Perhaps the line needs to be re-written. But saying it was not a failure, seems to be reviewer's personal opinion and nothing to do with history. It is not universally accepted, it is dead now. Do not confuse Dhamma with Buddhism. It was considered a failure for many reasons by many historian and sources are cited in support of the statement. Please read.
  • (6b)Images: Images are available but not under public license. However, there are 8 images what i found into commons.
  • (7)Overall assessment: Of course, some one would not ever be satisfied even if given appropriate reasons. But the reasons given on the talk page of the article and as explained above in the same fashion are not satisfactory, for sure and for me it interprets, I found someone to review a subject the person had not to do anything.
Like a well spelled word, called mis-spelled. School books(N.C.E.R.T) not reliable. Why the subject deals rude with Hinduism at some particular time not other religions, all seem ridiculous to me. I might be wrong, if shown with appropriate proofs. Like some Wiki policy says to schools books are not reliable. Or some reputed dictionary indicates, Outlaying is mis-spelled. Or some historical writings or journal says Dhamma was co-operative with odds of hinduism. AnupMehra 05:29, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - you may find meaning for any word in English - but whether that is the formal or appropriate usage in this forum is the question. Check this ref you have used - Pratiyogita - most of what you have written is totally in contrast. There is a not a word on Hinduism or failure there or the sources i searched. I have read through most of the references quoted and comments were not in the air. If there is a difference in the opinion between sources, it has to be mentioned as-is. If even if we forgo all other parts, the article fails on referencing alone - if you have to use the same source again, use this style - Wikipedia:CITATION#Repeated_citations. Thanks a lot and all the best.Ssriram mt (talk) 12:14, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Ssriram mt: Nope. Dictionary doesn't provide meaning for mis-spelled words(Earlier you had said this, "mis-spelled". Now not formal. There's a sharp diff. between these two.). PD is a renowned national monthly magazine of India of Upkar publication, available in Hindi and English. Perhaps I am supposed to perform some online research to get actual coverage of this magazine in different reliable sources to prove its authenticity. I'm NOT arguing you to grant this article GA status but point out some actual errors need correction. Last one is something to work on. But most of the sources are books, citations quote the same book but diff. pages, so Wikipedia:CITATION#Repeated_citations could not be used here. Thanks, btw! AnupMehra 14:49, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I never said PD is unreliable - but the contents in the article are noway close to the PD ref. If you see the recent edits, you can make out the set of spelling mistakes. I have corrected refs in some sections - but there are quite some unreliable refs all through, which don't support the claims made. There is quite a bit of work to be done - i will try to correct some. Blogs, scridb and some other web links - i doubt the reliability by all means.Ssriram mt (talk) 04:29, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for article work related to India. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Redtigerxyz submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Ssriram mt as Editor of the Week.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:
