Despite the control tower had stated that the weather conditions were too bad to take off, the pilot of Cubana flight decided to depart, fearing the weather conditions would have been even worse later. Just as the plane took off, the strong winds brought the aircraft down into a residential complex, killing everybody aboard (115 passengers and 11 crews) and even 44 people in the houses. Most of the passengers were Italian (113/115). Ironically, only 30 minutes after the crash, the weather started to clear up and the wind's intensity to decrease.
