Trà Vinh (Vietnamese: [ʈaː˨˩ vïŋ˧] ⓘ; Khmer: ព្រះត្រពាំង Preah Trapeang lit. 'Sacred pond') is a province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. The capital is Trà Vinh City.

Etymology

The name Trà Vinh comes from the Khmer name of the area ព្រះត្រពាំង Preah Trapeang, which means Sacred pond or Buddha's pond. The Vietnamese transliteration gave Trà Vang and later Trà Vinh. [3][4][5]

Demographics

Besides having mostly Vietnamese, Trà Vinh is populated with many members of the Khmer Krom ethnic group. Trà Vinh also has one of the largest ethnic Hoa (Chinese) communities in Vietnam.
