New page reviewer

User:Mach61

Fairly active at AfD, and none of the articles I have created or moved from draftspace have been deleted or redirected. Will start slow, since this process seems more complicated than AfC reviewing. Cheers, Mach61 (talk) 02:15, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. I'm concerned about the most recent thread on your talk page, in which you don't seem to understand the importance of informative edit summaries and talk page notifications when tagging articles for deletion, which is an integral part of new page patrol. I saw the advert for the January 2024 New Page Patrol Backlog Drive and I would like to try it for a one month trial. I generally take my time with making AfD nominations and only delete as a last resort if I cannot expand the articles. When commenting at AfD I try to select borderline cases where consensus could go either way, although my overall participation is lower since I generally do not comment on AfDs if it seems like a clear consensus already. While I have not done AfC reviews, I have generally found more 'low hanging fruit' at older articles, such as old orphans, articles without a labelled Wikiproject, or those with unclear notability issue tags that have been hanging around for many years - I find these articles often slip through the cracks of other automated detection tools. I am a moderately experienced editor with over 3,000 edits to Wikipedia, 21 new mainspace articles, and innumerable redirects, over a year of active editing and participation in a small number of AfD discussions / nominations. I am interested in doing a small amount of New Page Reviews to help with the current large backlog. I plan on starting slowly and carefully with a focus on articles in my areas of expertise: botany and related sciences. If, as I gain skill and ability I find that I can review fairly and effectively in other areas I will expand my reviewing, but only if I find that I can do it to quality that helps Wikipedia and encourages good article creation by other editors. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 17:55, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MtBotany. Thanks for your interest in helping out! Your application is a little weak in the area of demonstrated knowledge of page quality control (usually shown through participation in processes such as WP:AFD, WP:CSD, WP:AFC reviewing, etc.) I would personally support an NPP trial because I've seen you around RFA and know you to be an intelligent and pleasant editor, but will let someone else make the call. If you are accepted, please keep in mind this unwritten tip: species articles are basically an auto notability pass (just check Catalogue of Life or similar sources to make sure they're not a hoax). Almost all other types of articles will need their notability evaluated more strictly. They will need to pass an WP:SNG or (more commonly) WP:GNG. To pass GNG requires that several high quality sources exist and being fairly strict about evaluating those. The quickest way for you to learn notability in general is to read old WP:AFDs, and participate in AFDs and pay attention to the outcomes. It's good training. Good luck! –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:10, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the good wishes. I agree that any actual species pages will almost undoubtedly be notable unless they are just published and not yet listed in any of the major databases. Though I may point the editor in the direction of various databases or online books so that the page can be of a good start quality rather than a stub without references. "I think your article could be even better with some cites to FOO, do you need any help in figuring that out?" The main notability questions I expect to run into is about biographies of scientists, science books, use of plants in a particular way, etc. While I have not done much WP:GNG evaluation I have run into a bit of it and I think by going slowly and carefully at first I will avoid being either too strict or too lax. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 23:39, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I´ve been de-orphaning articles for a year or so now, acquiring some experience with PROD, AfD and speedy deletions. I´ve been active in the WP Netherlands, checking and if necessary removing PROD´s, participating in AfD discussions and so forth. I saw the request to help reduce the backlog of new page reviews. Sure, I would like to help. Ruud Buitelaar (talk) 02:35, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I received a request for assisting with the NPP backlog drive in January. I have considered going to NPPSCHOOL as part of becoming a better editor and watched the tutorial a few times but it was always a 'hm maybe later' idea. I've been working on the Unreferenced Articles WikiProject for the past 2+ years which has gotten me into AfDs as a nominator and participant, tagging articles as PROD, as well as rescuing a few PRODs and AfDs when I think there's potential, i.e. Hanna T. Rose and Kerry Corner. I see the goals of NPP in alignment with the URA where we keep out bad articles and direct attention to articles that need work, as well as help out new editors who have heart but are unfamiliar with project policies and guidelines. I've done some edits of articles I've found on the NP feed, particularly those with missing categories, but it would be beneficial for myself and NPP editors to do that in a more systematic format. I've never had a 3RR violation or been blocked, never edited for money, and I don't bite newbies. Kazamzam (talk) 21:26, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I received an invitation to join NPP from Hey man im josh on the 15th. I was previously granted the user right temporarily in August, though my re-request in September was declined primarily due to WP:BITE concerns and bad draftificatios. I have since become much more careful in patrolling, having made zero draftifications and several improvements to new articles (primarily in categorization). I have been an AfC reviewer since last year and am somewhat active in AfD. – dudhhr talkcontribssheher 22:01, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, My trial run with the NPR right just going to over on few days. I liked doing the page curation. Please review my logs and renew this right for me, if it is deemed appropriate. 😊 ~~ αvírαm|(tαlk) 17:01, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for requesting new page reviewer rights is that I'd like to participate in the drive. I've gone through NPPSCHOOL previously with User:Zippybonzo and I've previously had the right as a trial which I think went successfully. I also have created around 50 articles as well as some AfD experience in the past. Karnataka talk 10:23, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Received an invitation to apply back in July, which I didn't get around to actioning until now. With the backlog drive starting in January, I felt this was the perfect opportunity to apply, help out with the backlog and also provide assistance with this important area going forwards! Wikipedia editor for over 15 years and have been fairly active within and have a good understanding of AfD, PROD and CSD. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 13:58, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm a long-time editor, and was prompted to sign up for the New Page Patrol Backlog drive, and decided to participate. I've a clean block log. In the past, I've occasionally contributed to deletion discussions, nominated articles for deletion/merge, categories for discussion, etc. In the past, I've generally just been bold and created my own article directly. Anyway, happy to apply and help out, if given the tools. Cheers, BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 15:01, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After having a baby I now have more time opening up and would love to give back to the Wikipedia community. I've written several pages of my own, frequently add to pages needing citation, and am a proud member of the Women in Red community where I try to give as much time as possible.
