Requested move 21 March 2023

All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU)All Nepal National Free Students Union (Unified Socialist)Franked2004 moved the article from All Nepal National Free Students Union (Unified Socialist) to All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU). Now this is not a correct disambiguation and is effectively a POV statement by associating the CPN(US)-linked group with the abbreviation 'ANNFSU'.

For a brief history, ANNFSU (Nepali: अखिल नेपाल राष्ट्रिय स्वतन्त्र विद्यार्थी युनियन) emerged as the student movement of the pro-Chinese communist tendency. I don't know by heart exactly when ANNFSU first emerges, but at some point there are different 'ANNFSU', with the main ANNFSU linked to the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist–Leninist) and with the ANNFSU linked to Communist Party of Nepal (Fourth Convention) came to be known as 'All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Sixth)'. So here there was the discrepancy in how to translate the word स्वतन्त्र into English, but in Nepali the names are identical. The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) student wing continues to use 'Independent' for their All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary).

When the CPN(ML) gave way for CPN(UML) the name ANNFSU came to be primarily be associated with the CPN(UML)-linked group, as all other communist groups except the Maoists (who add '(Revolutionary)' to the name of their ANNFSU/ANNISU) became marginal compared to CPN(UML). ANNFSU is split when UML splits in 1998 but most of the splinters reunite some years later. But with the recent split as the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist), the UML-linked ANNFSU splits again into two organizations (one linked to UML, one linked to CPN(US)).

From my searches there is no well-established distinction in Nepalese press between these two ANNFSUs.

  • "the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), close to the CPN (UML)" ([1])
  • "protest against the UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students Union’s move to padlock the election officer’s office", "Nearby, at the Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, the Nepal Student Union, the ANNFSU close to the Unified Socialist and the Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) have padlocked the campus administration.", "member of the union close to the Unified Socialist brandished a khukuri", "UML’s ANNFSU has been accusing student organisations of the ruling parties of padlocking the colleges where it has better prospects." ([2])
  • "He said that All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) was elected in Dhankuta Multipurpose Campus" "ANNISU affiliated with CPN (Unified Socialist)'s" ([3])
  • "Samik Badal has been elected the central president of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), a student wing of the CPN (UML)." ([4])
  • "Counting of votes in the election held for the new leadership of All Nepal National Free Students Union is beginning tomorrow.According to Somnath Pyasi, chairperson of Central Election Commission, CPN-UML, vote counting will begin from 11:00 am tomorrow." (https://thehimalayantimes.com/kathmandu/counting-begins-in-annfsu-election])
  • "UML student wing, ANNFSU, the panel led by Tapendra Bahadur Shahi has emerged victorious at the Free Students Union (FSU) election held at the Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus." ([5])
  • "In terms of public results, ANNISU (Revolutionary) has won elections in 14 campuses, Nepal Student Union (NSU) in six campuses and All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) has won the presidency of FSU in four campuses." ([6])
  • "Sunita Baral, the chairperson of All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student wing of the CPN-UML, " " the National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student’s wing of CPN-Unified Socialist" ([7])
  • [8] distinguishes between "अनेरास्ववियु (एमाले)" and "अनेरास्ववियू –नेकपा एस"
  • Annapurna Post uses "नेकपा (एस) निकट अनेरास्ववियू" and "अनेरास्ववियु (एमाले)"
  • [9] uses "अनेरास्ववियू (नेकपा एस)" and "अनेरास्ववियु (एमाले)"
  • [10] uses " अनेरास्ववियु (एमाले)" and simply "अनेरास्ववियु" for the CPN(US) group
  • Dainik Nepal uses "अनेरास्ववियु (एमाले)" and "अनेरास्ववियू (नेकपा एस)".
  • [11] uses "अनेरास्ववियू एस"

All in all, it doesn't appear that Nepalese media neither in English nor Nepali would ascribe "ANNFSU" to the CPN(US) group primarily. There is the mmamc.edu.np link which seems to point to Franked2004's argument, but this doesn't seem to match any broader use. I suggest this be moved back to All Nepal National Free Students Union (Unified Socialist). Soman (talk) 14:57, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
