Genre

[edit]

Someone should edit 'rock' to something more appropriate. Choosing a specific genre is inherently subjective, but indie rock quite plainly isn't accurate and I thus edited it out.

Made some minor cleanup edits and added AugieMarch1K to the links section. --Hesperides

Don't write "a kickass rock band". It's not proper.

--Alex.

Happy Vandalism

[edit]

Okay kids, we're all happy they got voted number one, that's still no excuse to insert bullshit into the article. --Hesperides.

[edit]

hey guys, not confident to edit the page myself but notice that David Williams name is misspelt in the opening section. any chance to fix this? --niall —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.164.206.39 (talk) 13:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hottest 100

[edit]

Is it true The Hottest 100 is "the most voted public song poll in the world"? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.168.195.156 (talk) 23:47, 27 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

As far as I know, yes. Nick carson (talk) 02:36, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Augie-march-strange-bird.jpg

Image:Augie-march-strange-bird.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Useful page

[edit]

http://www.misdirection.net.au/35.html

Not all the links (esp. images) are clear who the publisher is, but there's some good stuff there. —Giggy 04:59, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Section headings

[edit]

Splitting by album is lame, IMO, because it makes it harder to read and adds little value to the reader. It makes it more like a discography, rather than a biography. Hence this change. Disagreement is good and so is discussion, so go nuts... Giggy (talk) 11:10, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I really dislike this image, I think it's much too indistinct and blurry to sit in the infobox. I'll have a look for another one tomorrow if nobody objects. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:53, 9 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Go for it, or feel free to switch back to the other one. It's just that I don't think any of the others show the entire band. Giggy (talk) 13:23, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Very nice Giggy, very nice indeed. I'm happy to copyedit tomorrow when I'm not tired and not drinking a beer. In response to your question on my talk page, I think "Asleep in Perfection" would have to be included; there was no out-and-out "single" track from Strange Bird though that grabbed attention, I'm thinking "Train" might be the way to go simply because it shows another side to the band though. I'm happy to encode, as surprisingly enough, I have all of their CDs. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Ha. You lucky guy. I have those songs on me and will get to them soon. Looking forward to the beer-induced copyedit! Giggy (talk) 12:50, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the trio; Image:AugieMarch-AsleepInPerfection-21s.ogg, Image:AugieMarch-ThisTrain-24s.ogg, and Image:AugieMarch-OneCrowdedHour-25s.ogg. Let me know if you think any of them suck and want to use a different part of the song, or whatever. Giggy (talk) 13:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I like the parts you've selected, but the samples from Train and Crowded Hour sound a bit muddy and low-quality. Is this a fair use consideration, or would it be a problem if I ripped those parts directly from the CD in high quality? If we're going to present them we may as well do so in the best possible light, I figure.
And I never copyedit while I'm drinking! Lankiveil (speak to me) 13:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]
I've got them on the lowest quality OGG Audacity can produce (see image page for tech. details). Fair use concern, mostly; we want to use as little as possible. If you can get similarly low file sizes that sound better by ripping from the CD then by all means go ahead... but I'm not sure if that's possible.
Oh, of course not. :-) Giggy (talk) 13:28, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-RS

[edit]

I removed http://www.cokemachineglow.com/record_review/3979/augiemarch-watchmedisappear-2008 and http://www.wirelessbollinger.com/content/view/1731/78/ as both sites don't seem to have that much industry reputation, etc. - while they do seem to have some editorial process there are more industry recognised sources out there. A google news search for either site was not particularly promising. Just pre-empting Ealdgyth's FAC source check. Giggy (talk) 07:29, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re-review

[edit]

Lankiveil asked me to look at this article again. While I do think that the prose has improved, I wonder if the use of vague words such as "positive", "negative", and "praise" might be replaced with more precise diction. Many kinds of reviews can be labeled "positive" or "negative"; it is better to explain to the reader in specific language what exactly the review said or to include a quotation. This is the only suggestion I have. Please let me know when this article is at FAC again so that I can support it. Awadewit (talk) 01:39, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd pass this article for GA status. The musical style section needs a bit of structure in the form of subheadings and some overall more precise diction, but other than that I see no reason why this article shouldn't be given GA status. It's on it's way to FA status. Nick carson (talk) 02:38, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A fairly comprehensive review has been done here, most of the points there seem commonsense enough, so I'm slowly working my way through them all. Lankiveil (speak to me) 04:54, 18 January 2009 (UTC).[reply]

melbourne/shepherton

[edit]

the page contradicts itself. in the writing section it says they originated in shepp, not melb, but on the side it says origin: Melbourne. Shepp is not in melb. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.168.208.144 (talk) 11:14, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
