WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  • Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  • Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Globalization good for China:

Economic globalization has provided China with more opportunities to attract foreign investment. It will help China obtain more technology and management experience from around the world faster, alleviate China's employment conflicts, promote the development of Chinese multinational companies, gradually enhance its competitiveness in the world market, and optimize China's industries structure.

China good for globalization:

China has played a positive role in globalization. As the world's largest exporter and second largest importer, China actively participates in international trade and has become an important engine of world economic growth. China has promoted the development of regional trade partnerships, such as the free trade area among Asian countries and the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, which has promoted economic and trade cooperation among countries along the route. Secondly, China's technological innovation and high-tech industry development have attracted world attention. China has made huge breakthroughs in the fields of Internet technology, artificial intelligence, and driverless driving, becoming a global leader in technological innovation. Chinese tech giants such as Huawei, Alibaba and Tencent are hugely successful around the world and their products and services are deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. In addition, China's cultural heritage and tourism resources attract a large number of international tourists. ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 11:42, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Weekly wiki edits—YUE JUNTONG

Hello, professor! I'm YUE JUNTONG taking your <Meadia Trend&Globalization> class. I have completed ten edits to Wikipedia this week.[[1]] Please check. And I have a question, are there any extra points for the class questions I answered on my blog ?Thank you. 악준동 (talk) 10:37, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@악준동 Well done. When leaving quotes about what was said about a person ("character evaluation") you should clearl attribute them. Ex. say "Professor XYZ in article published in newspaper ABC said 'this and this'). And yes, extra blogs generate extra points as well, just like participating in class discussion. In addition, regarding my other article "Immigration to South Korea", I have checked the content of the article and revised the translation. But the Chinese page still has "this article has the following problems, please help improve this article or comment on the topic in the discussion page." this content. I don't know how to clear it.Could you help me tell me how to solve this problem? Thank you.Rachel.zrq (talk) 10:29, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vital Articles

Hello! I'm just curious how you would feel if I nominated One Piece to become a level 4 vital article. It is the best-selling manga and comic series of all time and beats all three of the comics currently listed there (The Adventures of Tintin, Asterix, Peanuts). Link20XX (talk) 19:15, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

deadline7(weekwnd11)-kimjiwon

Hello, professor! I'm Kim Jiwon (Wldnjsdk1) who chose two topics from English to Korean. However, due to various problems during the translation of Chinese cannabis WikiFedia, we changed the subject to diet (nutrition) rather than Chinese cannabis and started translating it. I told you about a new topic last time, but you asked me to upload it again, so I modified it by applying the feedback I received last week. https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EC%82%AC%EC%9A%A9%EC%9E%90:Wldnjsdk1/%EB%8B%A4%EC%9D%B4%EC%96%B4%ED%8A%B8(%EC%98%81%EC%96%91)

I'm not good enough, but I'll try to participate in the rest of the class I'm truly sorry

Professor, if you don't mind, can I go to the office to see you after 12 o'clock on Thursday the 30th?

Wldnjsdk1 (talk) 05:51, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wldnjsdk1 My office hours start at 1600, not 1200. You are welcome to come to them, and I'll be happy to give you more feedback. You need to fix the references, which right now are not correctly formatted (see ko:위키백과:각주). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:13, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Piotrus--come on. This article is a piece of crap and you know it. Drmies (talk) 13:36, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    They are? To everyone?

Then I put the sentences into Google Books. This is the 1911 Britannica's "Wood-Carving" article, verbatim. It's not very good, by our standards, really, is it? DYK for Restrictions on geographic data in South Korea

On 30 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Restrictions on geographic data in South Korea, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that South Korea has censored military-affiliated golf courses? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Restrictions on geographic data in South Korea. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Restrictions on geographic data in South Korea), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
