Jackson Hinkle (born September 15, 1999) is an American conservative[1] and Marxist-Leninist[2][3][4] political commentator and social media influencer[5] who hosts the political show The Dive with Jackson Hinkle.[6]

Hinkle is best known for his advocacy of "MAGA communism": a call for MAGA supporters to adopt Marxist-Leninism[2][7][8] adapted to American conservativism.[9]

Early life and education

Hinkle was born on September 15, 1999, in San Clemente, California, the son of Jann and Daniel Hinkle.

Hinkle attended San Clemente public schools. Attending Shorecliffs Middle School and then San Clemente High School, he graduated high school in 2018.[10][11] Hinkle was engrossed in surfing, was a member of his middle school surf club, and was also an avid artist, playing the guitar and painting. [12][13]

In March 2016, during his sophomore year at high school, Hinkle founded the Team Zissou Environmental Organization (the name came from Steve Zissou, the protagonist of the Wes Anderson film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou), an environmental association that does lobbying and volunteer work such as beach cleanups in Orange County.[14]

In 2017, Hinkle became Water Ambassador for The Water Effect at The Ecology Center.[15]

In 2018, recently graduated Hinkle went to D.C. as a representative of nuclear safety advocacy group San Clemente Green. He spoke at a congressional briefing on the subject of safely dealing with decommissioned nuclear plants and met with congressional members.[14][16]

Activism and career

Hinkle began his political activism in the late 2010s, running in a San Clemente city council special election in 2019 as an anti-corporate progressive a year after graduating.[17][18] During this campaign he advocated that the city of San Clemente have its own police department, he “categorically and unconditionally” opposed the legalization of prostitution, and proposed combatting the presence and effect of nuclear waste in the area.[19] Hinkle ultimately lost the election, winning a little less than a third of the vote.[20]

In 2020, Hinkle launched the political show The Dive with Jackson Hinkle on Twitch (later banned for "harmful misinformation") and YouTube (banned in the wake of the 2023 Israel-Hamas War), later expanding to Rumble.[21]

In January 2022, Hinkle debated progressive political commentator Sam Seder on his talk show The Majority Report with Sam Seder.[22] In the debate, Hinkle attacked Seder’s support for “the Squad” and argued that they have in effect backed the American government’s imperialist foreign policy by funding the State Department, which “is leading coups across this world and is launching hybrid warfare through the National Endowment for Democracy.” He also attacked the Squad for accepting money from billionaire investor George Soros, which Sedar countered by asking if Hinkle believed the Squad “sold out for over $2,700 from George Soros?” Sedar also challenged the idea that the Squad is given preferential treatment in the media and said their funding for the State Department is of limited importance, saying “I don’t care” repeatedly in reference to that and Hinkle’s argument about the Squad essentially being a part of the establishment.[23] This dispute did not end with the debate and later on January 28, Sedar called Hinkle an “off-brand philosophy bro” and accused him of resorting to a pathetic “copypasta campaign” against his show.[24]

In June 2022, Hinkle debated popular liberal streamer Destiny and Hungarian YouTuber AdamSomething alongside InfraredHaz, a fellow communist YouTuber. Hinkle took part in the debate as part of the Modern-Day Debate channel; in it he argued against the idea that Russian actions in Ukraine constituted an illegal invasion.[25]

On September 6, 2022, Hinkle went on Tucker Carlson Tonight, denouncing President Joe Biden as “beholden to the military-industrial complex” and “extremely out of line with what average Americans need right now.” He attacked the Biden Administration for ignoring the needs of America’s working-class communities, such as Jackson, Mississippi saying that they “don't have clean drinking water in Jackson, Mississippi,” and that meanwhile “we're sending $7 billion over to Ukraine.” He referred to Biden’s efforts to militarily aid Ukraine as “funding this insanity in Ukraine.”[26][27]

In February 2023, as a leading critic of President Joe Biden’s policy in Ukraine, Hinkle spoke at the Rage Against the War Machine rally in D.C. opposing American intervention into Ukraine as well as any military assistance to the country.[28][29][30]

On July 26, 2023, Hinkle debated television personality Piers Morgan on the subject of the Russia-Ukraine War on his program Piers Morgan Uncensored, with Hinkle arguing that Ukraine and its president, Zelensky, hold a Nazi ideology, while Morgan held that this was a “bonkers” notion given Zelensky’s Jewish heritage.[31][32]

In 2023, Hinkle began appearing on RT. He appeared on September 20 to denounce the West’s foreign policy and state that they amount to a “hollow skeleton of power.”[33] Hinkle also visited Russia and expressed a positive view of his trip there, stating that the patriotic will of the Russians is similar to the sentiment of people from America’s heartland.[34] On October 27, Hinkle appeared on RT to denounce Israeli policy in regards to Gaza. Having previously interviewed Vladimir Solovyov in February earlier that year.[35]

Hinkle has also gained attention for his reporting regarding the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, being cited and referenced repeatedly by Iranian state-affiliated media as well as Colombian president Gustavo Petro.[36][37][38][39][40][41][42] However the response to his reporting has not been entirely positive, in the wake of this conflict Hinkle was deplatformed from YouTube losing the 300,000 subscribers he had on his channel.[41][43][37][44] Despite this Hinkle has still been cited by some Israeli publications such as The Times of Israel as a source for information during this conflict.[45][46]

Views

In late 2022, Hinkle backed and supported the concept of #MAGACommunism, leading it to trend on Twitter.[2][3] Commentator Thomas Fazi wrote in Compact magazine that this trend “arises out of an awareness that the MAGA movement is at a crossroads.”[2][47]

Some media outlets refer to him as a pro-Russia operative.[48][49][50] However, Hinkle refers to himself as an American patriot[51] against the White House’s “imperialist” foreign policy.

MAGA Communism

Hinkle describes himself as a proponent of "MAGA Communism", a political slogan that gained popular attention in early September 2022. Jackson Hinkle and other supporters of MAGA Communism argue that those who care about the working class should ally with the MAGA movement to incite a populist revolution. They believe that communism can serve as a force for American prosperity, working-class unity, and they emphasize patriotic strength and the benefit of the common good.[9]

MAGA Communists criticize liberal culture wars and identity politics and reject American imperialism.[9] Haz Al-Din, another pioneer of MAGA Communism, believes that Communists should support MAGA people and writes: "the primary contradiction in American politics is between MAGA and the status quo". MAGA Communists seek to salvage the anti-establishment and anti-imperialist aspects of the movement and make communism appealing to working-class people by removing the "toxic ideology of leftism" from communism.[2]

On 20 September 2022, Jackson Hinkle shared a list of what MAGA Communists support in a tweet.[9] He writes: "#MAGACOMMUNISM IS FOR: Reindustrialization of America, Dismantle Big Tech, End Foreign Intervention, End Globalist Imperialism, Abolishing CIA/FBI/NSA, Drain DOJ Swamp, Pardon 1/6 Protestors, Pardon Assange/Snowden, Extend Free Speech To Social Media, Land Reforms - Dismantle Big Agriculture, Unite With China On BRI (Belt and Road Initiative), Ban ANTIFA Street Terrorism, Expand Stable, High Yielding Energy Oil/Nuclear, Leave NATO, Mass Infrastructure Program, Declare Major Energy Resources As Public Commodities, Banking In Hands Of People, Economic Bill Of Rights, Cut Military Budget, Protect Second Amendment, Cut Foreign Aid & Democracy Promotion, No Open Borders, Dismantle MIC (Military Industrial Complex), Promote "MADE IN AMERICA" Products, Literacy Movement, Patriotic Education - End Woke Academia, End Subsidization of Monopolies, Remove Red Tape, Subsidize Gyms In Every Community, Lower Taxes, Deport Bush Family, Clinton Family, Obama, Pompeo, Bolton, to ICC (International Criminal Court), Destroy Open Society Foundation, WEF (World Economic Forum), IMF (International Monetary Fund), World Bank, Gates/Ford/Clinton Foundations, Dismantle Big Pharma, Destroy Duopoly/DC Uniparty, End Debt Slavery, Imprison Opioid/Fentanyl Networks, Protect Minors From Sexualization, Dismantle Secret Societies, CENTCOM (United States Central Command), AFRICOM (United States African Command), Declare NED (National Endowment for Democracy), USAID (United States Agency for International Development) & NAFO (North Atlantic Fella Organization) Terrorist Organizations, and Arrest George Soros, Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates, Fauci & All Epstein Associates/Criminals."

Reception

On 1 October 2022, Haz Al-Din attended a Trump rally at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan to interview Trump supporters. Although skeptical, the reception to MAGA Communism was mostly positive.[9]

Criticism

Some critics see MAGA Communism as an alt-right spin to combine aspects of "authoritarian MAGA" with communism. Others criticize it for a perceived lack of ideological consistency and its appeal to people disillusioned with liberalism.[9]

Personal life

Since 2023, Hinkle has been in a relationship with Anna Linnikova , a Russian model who won Miss Russia 2022.[52]
