Good Topic promotion error message

Hello, and thank you so much for the FT/GT promotion bot! When I tried to use it to promote a topic yesterday, it threw an error message I haven't seen before. That article was titled with a redirect in the FT box in the nomination, so I fixed that and tried to call the bot again, but this time it just hasn't responded. Sorry to bother you, but is there something simple I need to fix to help the bot to handle this promotion correctly? I'd really love to not have to promote this 33-article topic manually! Thanks, again! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 21:22, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Bryan. Looks like one of the pages, Talk:2019 Q School (snooker), was moved/redirected, which confused the bot. Luckily it appears to be article 28 of 32, so the bot did a lot of the work already. Perhaps I will release a patch to have the bot do 2 passes. Pass 1 in read only mode and pass 2 in write mode. In the future, this would help change the workflow to "1) bring error to our attention, 2) fix error, 3) rerun bot", instead of the current workflow where the bot fails mid-run. I'll work on this a bit tonight and I'll let you know how it goes. –Novem Linguae (talk) 02:11, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Bryan. I wrote the patch mentioned above. In the future, if there is an error, the bot should fail before it edits any pages, giving us a chance to fix the error and then run the bot again. And it will now give a better error message if it finds an unexpected redirect. There's a trick to running the bot twice (you have to get rid of the old promote template, then put it back so it pings the bot, the bot is triggered by a ping, and the bot will also not do a run if there is a |done=yes promote template on the page). Anyway, we should have a good process now for the future. No more of these "partial runs" where it aborts in the middle. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:33, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your work on these tools! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 22:05, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure. Happy to help :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 23:10, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble activating the bot

The first time I've tried to use it since this interaction, it doesn't seem to be triggering? I added the template to Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/World Professional Match-play Championship/archive1 six hours ago, and the bot hasn't run yet; am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 18:07, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bryanrutherford0. Hey there. Thanks for the message. Maybe I broke it when I did the last update. I'll take a look when I'm back at my desktop. –Novem Linguae (talk) 18:45, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it was ping-related. I have tried re-pinging the bot. I think it'll work now. Bot should promote it within the hour. Feel free to post here if there's any further trouble. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:00, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I posted the promotion template to Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/2005–06 Arsenal F.C. season/archive1 about five hours ago, and the bot doesn't seem to have fired. Thank you for your help! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 21:16, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bryanrutherford0. All fixed. The bot has pretty good "explain to the user what the heck is tripping it up" capabilities, but there was a bug that was preventing the error message from printing on the archive page. I fixed the bug then finished the promotion. Should be all set. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:46, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DetectPromo.js

Hello!
Thank you for your work on amazing scripts. I noticed that some of your draft related scripts, such as User:Novem Linguae/Scripts/DetectPromo.js, only work in draft and mainspace. I want to ask - why not userspace? userspace drafts are a thing that exists, and being able to easily spot promo language in a massive userspace draft with your tool would be very useful (for me at least), for example when I help users at the Teahouse. casualdejekyll 03:56, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Casualdejekyll. Thanks for the feature request. Can you link me to a userspace draft that you've seen recently? Maybe I can examine it and find a template and then have DetectPromo show if that template is detected. –Novem Linguae (talk) 23:43, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Novem Linguae - User:Carrieruggieri/Accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy doesn't appear to have anything in particular that would be helpful here (that's the draft that got me to make this request to you) but templates such as {{userspace draft}} or checking if the title of the page matches User:\w+\/sandbox or something would be very helpful. Or perhaps (if possible) just making it so you can run the script on any page by clicking something in the sidebar or some sort of toggle. casualdejekyll 00:04, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I don't have time to work on this today, but I created a ticket on GitHub to remind me to do it in the future. –Novem Linguae (talk) 06:09, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is a mop reserved in your name

You are a remarkable editor in many ways. You would be a good administrator, in my opinion, and appear to be well qualified. You personify an administrator without tools and have gained my support already!

—usernamekiran (talk) 22:07, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the kind words @Usernamekiran. I will certainly give it some thought. Happy new year. –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:10, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Retroactive thanks

Just got to doing a diff for the AWB discussion, and noticed that it was you who pinged me at the "a eu"->"an eu" thread. Thanks for that, as it allowed me to redirect my frustration with an apparently intractable attitude problem into at least fixing some part of the problem. Your question just now was also à propos since a number of other people were probably thinking the same thing. If you do ever run for admin, I would support you based on these two constructive interactions. We need more of those. Elinruby (talk) 14:44, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Elinruby. Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you found my comments helpful. See you around :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 00:36, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

GAN tool - new subcats

Hey, it looks like the GAN review tool needs to be updated to reflect some changes at the GA subcategories.

  • Under Language and literature, Tolkien has been added
  • Under Social sciences and society > Culture, sociology, and psychology > Clothing, fashion, and beauty has been added and Globalization has been removed

Cheers and thanks for making such an excellent tool! ♠PMC(talk) 10:40, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Thanks for reporting. Happy new year. –Novem Linguae (talk) 11:16, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, you too! ♠PMC(talk) 12:05, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! As you suggested to make the article more neutral and encyclopedic, I revised the article, can you take another look to see if it now meets the requirements for publication, Thank you! Wsdst talk — Preceding undated comment added 04:21, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Wsdst. Nice job on fixing up that draft. I left a comment with a couple more suggestions. Hope it helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 04:56, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Thank you for your suggestions, they really help me improve my draft Draft:Xin Zhou (physicist). Now I add a citation to the education paragraph and fix citations #2 and #3 as you suggested, can this draft be approved now?And the title "Xin Zhou (physicist)" is not suitable, can it be replaced by “Xin Zhou (scientist)”?
Thanks again for your suggestions. Wsdst (talk) 06:09, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wsdst. Looks good. I approved the draft. Great working with you. I hope you stick around. Happy new year :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 06:11, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

Can you please remind me how to add userboxes to my page. I want to do some page cleaning and refresh some things. Filmmaker8306 (talk) 06:50, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there @Filmmaker8306. Long time no chat. WP:USERBOX has a "Search for userbox topic" box and button you can use to search for userboxes you might want to add. Once you find one you like, copy paste it into the wikicode for your userpage, between the {{userboxtop}} and {{userboxbottom}} templates. The userbox code itself will also be wrapped in braces, for example, {{User:Mksmith/Screenplay reader}}. Hope this helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 06:57, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have one more question: im trying to add an external link to my page but for some reason , the link comes up as [1] and not the actual link. This is the link— https://youtube/EkzMef3JwWk Filmmaker8306 (talk) 07:19, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There's 3 ways to add external links: A) no brackets, like in your message above. B) Brackets with a URL inside, which condenses it to [1]. C) Brackets with a URL inside, a space, and then what you want the URL to show up as. So [https://test.com/ Test] would become Test. More info at Help:Link#External links. Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 07:24, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Toolforge

Hi, would you be willing to help me with setting up my bot on Toolforge, for Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Qwerfjkl (bot) 15 (currently I'm just running it on PAWS)? I've been following User:Novem Linguae/Essays/Toolforge bot tutorial. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:19, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Qwerfjkl. I'd be happy to help, but looks like your bot is written in python, which isn't my area of expertise. You can try to follow my tutorial and adapt it to python, but if you get stuck, you should probably ask on Discord in the technical channel, or onwiki at WP:VPT. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:41, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I've started to setup the FTP client, but I 'm not sure what I should replace (remote directory:) /mnt/nfs/labstore-secondary-tools-project/novem-bot with. — Qwerfjkltalk 22:56, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oooh, I think I can answer this one. Try replacing novem-bot with your tool's username (which is different from your wikitech username) –Novem Linguae (talk) 23:24, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So /mnt/nfs/labstore-secondary-tools-project/ would apply to any tool in Toolforge? — Qwerfjkltalk 10:39, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also have this tutorial (which might help). — Qwerfjkltalk 10:50, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So /mnt/nfs/labstore-secondary-tools-project/ would apply to any tool in Toolforge? That's my understanding, yes. –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:03, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Correction to the above: According to this, a better path is /data/project/toolNameGoesHere. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:02, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What should I use for private key file? I have
ssh-rsa [some text]
and
Fingerprint:
-----BEGIN OPENSSH PRIVATE KEY-----
[some lines]
-----END OPENSSH PRIVATE KEY-----
I presume the private key fingerprint, but it asked me for a passphrase to convert to PuTTY from OpenSSH format. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:08, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I used some kind of tool to generate my keys. Maybe try the instructions at mw:SSH keys#Generating a new SSH key and see if that works. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:07, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found out you can do it through WinSCP.
When starting PuTTY, I got the following message:
The host key is not cached for this server:
login.toolforge.org (port 22)
You have no guarantee that the server is the computer you think it is.
The server's ssh-ed25519 key fingerprint is:
ssh-ed25519 255 SHA256:xxW0+dRvWgCzYOq7uBKXXo7Xze0FVezt0QikIkpeMKI
If you trust this host, press "Accept" to add the key to PuTTY's cache and carry on connecting.
If you want to carry on connecting just once, without adding the key to the cache, press "Connect Once".
If you do not trust this host, press "Cancel" to abandon the connection. — Qwerfjkltalk 16:59, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that just means it's your first time connecting to this server. You can hit "accept" to basically say "I trust this server". –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:01, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Am I supposed to have a black window titled "bastion.toolforge.org. - PuTTY" with a green rectangle cursor (unresponsive)? — Qwerfjkltalk 17:10, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at these 3 screenshots, including the comments. Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:17, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unresponsive window. I guess I'll try restarting PuTTY. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:19, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That worked. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:20, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Restarting is always the answer :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:21, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was my third time restarting, each time I got further. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:25, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've made it to #Write and test your bot, and I have no idea what to do.
PAWS used OAuth to login; I presume I'll need to actually add this to the code? — Qwerfjkltalk 17:29, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not familiar with PAWS and OAuth. I've gone ahead and written a couple more sections in my bot tutorial to give you ideas. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:49, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
┌──────────────────────────────┘
I presume from $this->wp->login('usernameGoesHere', 'passwordGoesHere'); that I have to login with pywikibot. I guess this will help. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:52, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Python frameworks are above my pay grade, but yes, that looks right. –Novem Linguae (talk) 18:00, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Qwerfjkl: are you going to use pywikibot? If you are using python, pywikibot is recommended. —usernamekiran (talk) 18:17, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernamekiran, yes, I'm using pywikibot. — Qwerfjkltalk 19:09, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way to set a cron job to run a program once (indefinitely)? Is this (running a program indefinitely) bad practice? — Qwerfjkltalk 21:05, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't need a cron job to run a program once. Could just fire it off in PuTTy. It will eventually crash though: server restarts, etc. And the program would eventually finish whatever task you programmed it to do, or would have to be programmed to check something else (such as an API) at a certain interval. What task do you have in mind? –Novem Linguae (talk) 21:11, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The code is here (User:Qwerfjkl (bot) task 15). It runs indefinitely and queries the API (newpages). — Qwerfjkltalk 22:10, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd personally probably set the cron job to 1 minute or 5 minutes, then run an SQL query grabbing all pages created within the last 1 or 5 minutes. But there may be a better way. If you figure it out, let me know. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:38, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to the gurus of WP:DISCORD's technical channel (which by the way I recommend you get an account and post tech questions there, then you can crowdsource the answers instead of just relying on my limited knowledge), wikitech:Event Platform/EventStreams is also an option. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:45, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any way to change the permissions of a file before uploading it to Toolforge, or do I just have to be quick when protecting my passwords file? — Qwerfjkltalk 18:08, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure. I just rename them quickly. But there may be a better way. Bot passwords (a way to use the same username but a different password with different permissions) are also a good security practice. Special:BotPasswordsNovem Linguae (talk) 22:24, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I blanked the password before uploading it and then changed the permissions, and then modified the file to re-add the password. It turns out WinSCP can also change permissions and edit files. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:24, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Usha Sirohi

I just looked at the history of Usha Sirohi and realized you edited it one minute prior to when I accepted it as a draft. Sorry for stepping on your toes! HouseBlastertalk 06:55, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Process Cost Assessments (PCA) article follow up

@Novem the article I wrote on process cost assessments was cited with intent and no copying and pasting occurred. I did not copy and paste from a website for text, and when I quoted I ensured to follow proper citation protocol. Please let me know if you need any other information or clarification! CaliforniaPioneer (talk) 21:46, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. Was just double checking. I'll add your comment to the draft. Thanks for following up. –Novem Linguae (talk) 01:28, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Glitchy translation tool

Hello, the tool that I used comes directly from the Wikipedia page layout. It's easier to find now than the simple link to connect alternate language pages is, which is the only reason I tried it. Here is an example link to start the tool. https://ja.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ContentTranslation&from=ja&to=en&page=STOLEN_SONG#suggestions It removes or breaks references when used, which is how I got left with Phoenixx (which had proper citations from major third party publications) moved to Draftspace.Londonbeat41692 (talk) 03:05, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Londonbeat41692. Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately I am not too familiar with this tool. If you don't mind, you may want to repost your question at WP:VPT. There are hundreds of tech-saavy editors that follow that page and one of them might be familiar with your tool. Hope this helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:33, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Redirects Project

I found the Missing Redirects Project, which hasn't be running for some time now. Do you think you could try running it, or do you know anyone who can? The source code is here. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:43, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Qwerfjkl. I think I found a link to the source code for the tool at User:Nickj/Redirects#Source code, but I think the link there is not working. It also looks like @Nickj hasn't edited in 10 years. I think a good next step might be to Special:Email Nickj and ask him to fix the broken link above / share the source code. If that doesn't work, then it would probably need to be reverse engineered from scratch. Perhaps a post at WP:BOTREQ would get that process started. Hope this helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 18:40, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I managed to download the code (it wasn't working, as you said, but I reloaded the page or something and it worked). What would be best best way to reupload it? — Qwerfjkltalk 19:00, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the files (expires in 30 days). — Qwerfjkltalk 19:05, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, excellent. I'd upload that to https://github.com/ (if you know how, else I can do it), then go make a thread at WP:BOTREQ asking for help getting this running. Whoever helps you, might want to give them collaborator access on the GitHub repo so they can make changes. Whoever helps you would probably want to eventually put this on Toolforge as a regularly running cron job. Looks like the bot's source code is licensed GPL v2, which should be fine for GitHub and Toolforge. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:56, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Does this work? — Qwerfjkltalk 12:00, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me. That should preserve the files, and make it easy for multiple people to work on them. I think next step is WP:BOTREQ. I'd take a look myself but am busy for a couple weeks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:29, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help in adjusting the NPP bar?

There have been discussions before, about the bar for NPP reviewers, my attempt was not successful, I'll give it a second try though. An admin mentioned, they could support raising the bar as well. And maybe you know of a discussion were I can get aware of some other concerns that might should be addressed? Raising the edit count and weighing the experience in deletion discussions less (that lack of experience lead to my and also to moops decline) would be my inputs. For me the main button we have is the one of marking articles as reviewed/approved. For that purpose we have the NPP tool bar with some extra features, but I believe most of them, (also nominating for deletion and maintenance tagging) can also be done without the NPP toolbar.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 08:21, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. Thanks for the message. I'd be in favor of raising the NPP bar slightly, since in practice it is a harder perm to get and I think there's benefit to saving time and saving new users the sting of rejection. But I also think it's reasonable to screen for CSD and AFD experience, since CSD and notability are such a big part of the NPP flowchart. Hope that makes sense. Feel free to open a bigger discussion about this, perhaps at WT:NPPR. Happy editing. –Novem Linguae (talk) 15:25, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your valuable input. On the CSD and AFD experience, I do not agree so much, but an advice from an editor who writes scripts like you together with your experience in NPP; might make some sense:). I'll evaluate a bit more on how to address the bar-raise, and then open a discussion at the WT:NPPR if no-one starts a discussion on it before me.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 16:23, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

GANReviewTool

Finally found some time to try this out. Bless you. I will never break the GA article list or ADHD away midway through passing an article again. -- asilvering (talk) 07:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ummm...possibly really stupid question...I use tools around here all the time but forget the name or don't remember where I got the tool, I have never been a coder so some of all that is beyond my editing brain. Anyway, all that is to say - where can I find this tool? Thanks (and good luck on your RfA). Shearonink (talk) 22:12, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Shearonink. I have a complete list of scripts I've made on my user page. And you can visit GANReviewTool directly at User:Novem_Linguae/Scripts/GANReviewTool. There should be installation instructions there. Feel free to follow up here with questions. Hope that helps :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:39, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm baaaaaack. So, I've been following the instructions to install this tool but I am stuck at "...then come back to this page and click the giant blue "Install" button in the infobox on the right." because there is no Giant Blue Install button. I see that the Enterprisey script installer is on my common page so at least I got that done but.... Help? Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 16:25, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Shearonink. Looks like you might have installed reply-link by mistake, which is different than script-installer. I'd recommend deleting reply-link from your common.js. Then go to Special:Preferences -> Gadgets -> find script-installer and tick that -> save. Then look for the blue button again. Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 16:42, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oddly enough I seemed to have gotten the script-installer installed at some point today but also installed the common stuff too... All is well now, thanks. lol. now if I can just figure out how to use it...always takes me a while. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 17:41, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for saving the day

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
Dear Novem Linguae,
Please receive my belated but heartfelt appreciation for saving the day on the Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/February 2023 effort to re-assess Good articles, that aided in the DC Copyright contributor investigation.
When I first proposed the process in the January 2023 AN discussion, I envisioned it working something like procedural Featured article reviews; I had no idea that there wasn't really a GAR process in place to deal with several hundred deficient GAs, and the work turned out to be much more complicated than I thought. It simply would not have been possible--or at least, would not have been accomplished so seamlessly--without your effort, competence, thoroughness, and efficiency.
And besides all of that, you are just so nice to work with :) Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:51, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @SandyGeorgia. It was nice working with you too. The coding was a lot of work, but I was happy to do it. Happy editing :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:12, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Russian terms "unlikely etymology" of Russian terms?

Your edit on Gopnik commented: "seems unlikely that a non-Russian term was the etymology of a Russian term". Where do you think отель and ресторан and шофёр came from? The French words hôtel, restaurant, chauffeur. See Disinformation: "Defector Ion Mihai Pacepa claimed Joseph Stalin coined the term [дезинформация], giving it a French-sounding name to claim it had a Western origin." – Raven  .talk 05:35, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. Thanks for the message. Your edit seemed a bit WP:REDFLAG to me and was uncited. Feel free to readd it with a citation to a reliable source such as a book, dictionary, or scholarly article. –Novem Linguae (talk) 11:42, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't MY edit you reverted. I comment merely to draw your attention to the phenomenon's not being "unlikely"; Russia borrows words from the West far more often than vice versa. Of course during much of its Imperial period, the nobility spoke French; rather like the Anglo-Norman nobility under the Plantagenet dynasty (causing many heraldic terms to still be Anglo-Norman French). And a higher proportion of modern Russians speak English, than of native English-speakers also speaking Russian. – Raven  .talk 05:27, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure episodes

@Ckng9000. Howdy. The page List of Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure episodes is marked as reviewed in the system. Should be all set for now. I also spot checked a few diffs and don't see any recent ones that have #REDIRECT [[Main page]]. If you'd like me to look into that more, feel free to provide a WP:DIFF. Thank you. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:54, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah I see. I was looking at the wrong page (it redirected me). Is there some reason you keep trying to restore the page? The same episode list is contained at Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure, and that seems like a reasonable place for it. –Novem Linguae (talk) 22:12, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thank you for creating that ANI thread. I considered doing so last night, and resisted the urge mainly because 1) I was hoping the IP would stop making those edits, and 2) it was early morning for me and I wasn't in the best state of mind to create that kind of topic. I agree with you that their English is problematic to the point that I can't reliably grasp the meaning of their messages, and I don't trust a user who can't clearly communicate (and frankly, one who hasn't created an account) to be setting up auto-archiving, especially on a large scale...I'm not really sure auto-archiving should ever be a mass-edit; are there so many Talk pages that need it turned on so quickly? Doubtful, to me. Please let me know if you feel my leaving a message at the ANI thread would be useful; right now I think the IP's own comments aren't especially helping their case. I feel it might be premature to block them entirely, but they definitely need to know that they shouldn't be doing this type of work without better supervision and more clear communication. DonIago (talk) 13:18, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I pretty much agree with everything you just said. If their English were better it'd be much easier to handle this because they could promise to stop making those edits, but their English is really hard to understand, to the point where they appear to be saying "yes I'll stop" and "no I won't stop" in the same paragraph. I'm scratching my head a bit. Perhaps outside perspectives will help. –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:30, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I'll keep an eye on the thread, and if more people don't chime in, I'll at least say that I think we need an unambiguous commitment from the IP to stop setting up Talk pages for auto-archiving without first discussing the matter and getting a consensus at the Talk page in question...which technically should be happening in every instance, but I admit I don't tend to make a fuss if it's being done by an editor who seems to know what they're doing. Hey there. Your edit wasn't particularly helpful. It had no punctuation, was bossing people around, wasn't discussing how to improve the page, and had no section heading. In that situation, it is probably best to leave the page blank. –Novem Linguae (talk) 03:16, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

GAN count

It looks like part of the problem is Forge Park/495 station, which per this is credited to you as a GA, probably because of this edit. ChristieBot's database has this recorded correctly, but at the moment I use SDZeroBot's numbers for the GA counts. (That leads to a couple of other oddities, since SDZeroBot deletes GAs from the count if they are delisted or promoted to FA.) I think that explains what you're seeing; or are you saying that the sort order is not correctly implemented even if that GA were in fact yours? Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:30, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re-reading the algorithm, looks like the sort order is correct after all. Was a bit complicated but I get it now. Would be nice if you can set my GA count to 0 so I'm a bit higher up in the list, but if it's too much trouble, I understand. Thanks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:44, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging SD0001 who runs that bot; they may be able to reset it. SD0001, the nominator should be Pi.1415926535. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:10, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done [6] For the record, it would have correctly attributed if |nominator= had a simple user page link instead of {{u}} template. – SD0001 (talk) 16:12, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article Red team you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Red team for comments about the article, and Talk:Red team/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Novem Linguae , you commented [7] in regards to Talk:COVID-19 pandemic/GA4... I've answered about 224 comments, however Shibbolethink stopped editing here [8] (actually he doesn't seem to have edited anywhere) 3 days ago and counting. I left him a message [9] and sent an email, however I haven't gotten a response to either. Hey there. I think he commented that he is in the middle of moving, so maybe he got busy with that. The linked article has 600 citations, which is quite a massive article. I'm not sure I can commit to reviewing that one yet. I think the best case scenario would be that Shibbolethink comes back and finishes the review. Hopefully that happens in the next few days. Sorry I couldn't commit to reviewing this one, and I hope this advice helps. Happy editing. –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:08, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Red team

On 10 June 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Red team, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that red teams are used to test airport security? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Red team. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Red team), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Advertising

I was looking through the New Pages Feed this morning to find some articles with obvious issues and found this article. It is pretty clearly biased toward the subject though I am unsure if it is notable. I've found a few (seemingly independent) news sources (other results were found on Google) though all of them I have found are suspiciously promotional. Should the page be draftified or G11'd? ~UN6892 tc 14:57, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I realize the minute I sent that, a newbie nominated it for speedy deletion via A7, though I find the fact that the subject worked on Imran Khan's documentary to be a credible claim of significance (It was backed up by the sources I read). ~UN6892 tc 15:06, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like the admin deleted it for both A7 and G11. I didn't get to see it before it was deleted so I can't offer too much of an opinion on it. I'm glad that the situation appears to be resolved though. Happy editing. –Novem Linguae (talk) 16:16, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Zippybonzo. Awesome, thanks for getting that sent out. I do have a small piece of feedback for you in the edit summary here. No big deal though.
If you want, can you also copy paste the draft newsletter into Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Newsletters since 2020? Then you can cut out most of the body text from the draft newsletter page, saving only what we'll need for the next newsletter. Finally, would you be willing to cut and paste all the newsletter stuff off the coordination page onto its own subpage? And then add /Newsletter to the NPP page tabs/header?
It sounds like you, @Dr vulpes, @Hey man im josh, and possibly some others are interested in NPP coordination tasks. I have a couple ideas listed at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Potential tasks for new coordinators, but I'm sure we can think of more. Can you do me a favor and start a talk page section called "NPP coordinator task ideas" or something on WT:NPPC? If we've got willing and motivated folks, we should definitely brainstorm and find things for y'all to do and ways to improve NPP :)
Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it. –Novem Linguae (talk) 18:15, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
