prototype

A prototype Portal screen is being developed that will access the same header/footer boxes in Portal:Space/. Each section may be put in one of those boxes. Additional information should be planned out also. --Exodio 21:22, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Merge three into one

selected content

I was thinking of making the following boxes:

  • Selected article (weekly)
  • Selected mission (weekly)
  • Selected biography (weekly)
  • Selected anniversaties (daily)

how does that sound? As opposed to having a Selected picture, which most portals seem to have.. it seems that any really good space-related image would have an appropriate article attached to it, and most of these boxes would have an image attached to them anyway. Alternatively, I was considering Selected spacecraft instead of Selected mission? but i think mission is probably better. Mlm42 08:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

merger?

although the above "discussion" didn't reach a consensus, i went ahead and started merging content from other portals into this one anyway.. i think the tabs idea is a handy one. Mlm42 16:55, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Merging content is different from merging the portals. You can add anything to this portal you deem relevant, but we cannot redirect or change the portals that were candidate for merge in the above discussion. There is no censensus for the latter. This, in my opponion, includes Portal:Astronomy: You can add topics from Astronomy to this portal, but I object to changing the scope of the Astronomy portal or redirecting it to this one, as I said on other talk pages. Awolf002 17:12, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
but what if this portal were to include any content that is it Portal:Astronomy? then what's the harm in redirected the portal here? Mlm42 17:24, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
I agree: this Portal:Space should mainly transclude content from other space-related portals. I've taken an experimental step at this with the launch info box, which is now transcluded from the equiavalent box in Portal:Spaceflight. Is this the right approach to take? Sdsds 06:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes Sdsds, that was great. And integrating in the astronomical events from Portal:Astronomy was a good move too. Also nice is the link (bracketed with "<noinclude>") in the news box, that leads to a DynamicPageList at wikinews with Space-related wikinews articles. (sdsds - talk) 04:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Collaboration

Can the current Space Collaboration of the Week be added to this portal, as it is at Portal:Spaceflight? I think we need to publicise this project before it dies again, and this would be a good place to do so. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 10:42, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Portal

This seems like a very thourogh, organized portal. Someone should put it up for a Good Portal Nomination (mabye even a P:FP!) Resident Mario (talk) 16:40, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Additions to STS-88

I have added a section to STS-88 on the Mission's Timeline. The article's status as a start-class article should probably be re-evaluated. The article was originally evaluated on this portal. Thanks. Basketball123456 (talk) 13:53, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Selected article update

It was noted at the Community bulletin board that "the selected article excerpts were copy and pasted between 2006 and 2009. The leads of the corresponding articles have greatly improved since then". I have tried to remedy this, and have edited many of the selected article subpages today. -- John of Reading (talk) 22:55, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

John of Reading Do you remember which ones you did? I'd be willing to split the work with you and get the rest of them. If you don't that's alright, I can just check. Zell Faze (talk) 13:06, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
@Zellfaze: Not off hand, you'll have to look at the history of each page. It was a year ago, after all. For some of them, the planets especially, I thought at the time that the article leads were now too long to be used in the portal, so deliberately left the shorter versions intact. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:15, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
@John of Reading: No worries. I hadn't even noticed that it was that long ago. Has that portal really been on the Community Portal that long?!? That's kind of insane. Now I definitely want to take care of this so we can give that spot to another project. Zell Faze (talk) 20:13, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Filling Out Featured Images

The bottom of the Featured Images page says to "Feel free to add related featured pictures to the above list." I'm going ahead and doing this. I thought I'd mention something here though because I don't know how old that statement was and if consensus may have changed. Zell Faze (talk) 13:11, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Nasa Portal

How come the European Space Agency get's it's own portal, but NASA doesn't?Lukejodonnell (talk) 01:50, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

For the record, ESA portal has been deleted in 2019. —andrybak (talk) 17:29, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Notice from the Portals WikiProject

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:46, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
