Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage of Noveleta (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje de Noveleta, Filipino: Mahal na Birhen ng Kapayapaan at Mabuting Paglalakbay ng Noveleta), also known as Nanay Paz, Queen of Noveleta (Spanish: Nanay Paz, Reina de Noveleta), is a title of Mary, mother of Jesus, a Marian image and icon venerated in the Philippine Independent Church, also known as the Aglipayan Church. The town of Noveleta in the province of Cavite considers her as its patroness.

History[edit]

In the 1950s, a female Muslim convert from Leyte named Alan Rahah Libato, baptized with Christian name Teresa dela Paz and known by the locals of Noveleta as "Nanay Teresa", was a daughter of a datu. She fled from her parents due to a planned forced marriage, and eventually moved to Noveleta. According to legend, she received a vision and heard a voice from the Blessed Virgin Mary on her pilgrimage in the mountains of Antipolo. She reportedly instructed her to make a replica image of the Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje and have it enshrined below of the image of Santa Cruz in the town of Noveleta as the town was said to be in chaos. Teresa then decided to organize the creation of the image and gathered some followers. Some of the followers of Teresa went to Noveleta to see the Aglipayan church being referred by the Blessed Virgin Mary according to Teresa's vision, and there, they found the image of Santa Cruz enshrined on the top center of the altar in the sanctuary. They informed the former parish priest, Monsignor Agustin O. Polintan, of the important message they have for the Aglipayan faithfuls of Noveleta.[1][non-primary source needed]

On 13 November 1955, the image arrived in Noveleta and was welcomed by the Aglipayan faithful. The statue was positioned on the altar next to the image of Santa Cruz de Noveleta and stayed there throughout the ceremony.[2]

In 2014, due to the fervent devotion of worshippers, Nanay Paz was given the title Reina de Noveleta.[3][better source needed] On 13 November 2015, an Episcopal Coronation was held and the image was formally crowned by Bishop Emiliano D. Domingo, incumbent diocesan bishop, and Bishop Pedro C. Ojascastro, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Cavite, declaring the icon as Reina de Noveleta, coinciding with the sixtieth anniversary of her arrival in the town of Noveleta.[4]

Veneration and the Marian image[edit]

The image of the Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje de Noveleta is enshrined in the Church of Santa Cruz in Noveleta. The image was venerated in the church alongside the image of Santa Cruz de Noveleta, the titular patron of the town. The feast day is celebrated every year on 3 May as the feast of the town of Noveleta, and 13 November as the feast of the translation of the image of Nanay Paz.
