Geography[edit]

It is located near the watershed of tributaries of the Konka river, which flows roughly northwestward into the Dnieper, and the Molochna river, which flows roughly southwards into the Sea of Azov. It is 25 kilometres (16 mi) away from Tokmak,[2] and 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) south of Orikhiv.[3] It is a few kilometres south of Robotyne.[4]

History[edit]

It was founded in the mid-19th century as Vershyna (Ukrainian: Вершина) by settlers from Mala Tokmachka.[2] It gained its current name in 1882.[2]

It has become a frontline village during the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[5] On 25 August 2023, it was reported by Russian and Ukrainian sources that Ukrainian forces were advancing on the village.[6] On September 24, 2023, it was reported that the Ukrainian soldiers are already inside the village. Heavy fighting is ongoing in Novoprokopivka.[citation needed]
