"Never Abandon Your Family" is a song by American rapper Kanye West from the deluxe version of his tenth solo studio album, Donda (2021). The song was previewed during the album's listening events at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium in July and August of 2021. Lyrically, it sees West criticizing himself over his divorce from Kim Kardashian.

Background

[edit]

On July 22, 2021, Kanye previewed a song featuring his mother Donda West singing to never abandon your family during a listening event for Donda at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kanye West played this line from her repeatedly, with the song rumoured to be titled "Love Unconditionally" or "Losing My Family" at the time.[1][2][3] West played it again during the album's second listening party at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 6, lying still on the stage's floor as choir members crawled along.[4] "Never Abandon Your Family" was absent from the release of Donda in August 2021, although West's mother was quoted on its title track and "Donda Chant".[5] On November 14, 2021, a finished version of the song was included on the deluxe edition of Donda.[6][7] In the lyrics of the song, West criticizes his role in the divorce of him and media personality Kim Kardashian.[5]
