Miss Grand Curaçao is a national title given to a woman chosen to represent Curaçao at the Miss Grand International pageant.[1][2][3] Silvienne Winklaar, the winner of the Miss Grand Curaçao 2014 pageant, was the first Curaçaoan to compete in the mentioned pageant.[1] Since 2019, the right to send Curaçaoan representatives to compete at the Miss Grand International belonged to the Miss Curaçao organizer, Curaçao Beauty Pageant Committee, which was led by Ayshel Maria.[4]

Since its first participation, only one edition of the Miss Grand Curaçao has been held;[5][6] other Miss Grand Curaçao titleholders were appointed by the respective licensees.[1][2] The only placement of Curaçao at Miss Grand International is the top 20 finalists, obtained in 2022 by Kanisha Sluis.[7]

History[edit]

In partnership with the Señorita Curaçao and a food delivery company Curadise, HUGON Business Management & Entrepreneurial organized the first contest of the Miss Grand Curaçao pageant in 2014 in Willemstad.[8][9] The event was held at the World Trade Center Curaçao (WTC) on April 30 and featured seven national finalists,[5][6] of whom a nineteen-year-old from the capital, Silvienne Winklaar, was named the winner.[1] Winklaar then represented the country at the Miss Grand International 2014 in Thailand, making her the first Curaçaoan candidate at such a contest; however, she failed to get any placements in the finals.[1][10] An attempt to organize the Miss Grand National in 2015 has been observed, but the project was canceled for undisclosed reasons.[11]

After five years of absence, Curaçao returned to the competition after an event organizer chaired by Ayshel Maria, Curaçao Beauty Pageant Committee (CBPC), purchased the license in 2019.[1] However, under the management of such a committee, all Miss Grand Curaçao titleholders were handpicked; most of them were the finalists of the CBPC-affiliated pageant, Miss Curaçao.[1][2]

Edition[edit]

The Miss Grand Curaçao pageant was held as an individual contest once in 2014 by the Señorita Curaçao organization, the Curadise company, and the HUGON Curaçao.
