dailymusicroll.com

Hello! I would like to request the page below to be whitelisted for use on the Phil Harvey (manager) article. The previous reference for his name, birthday and birthplace came from a more reliable website, but it had the wrong birth year. I checked Harvey's data on the British Birth Index and Daily Music Roll is currently the most complete and correct reference one can find with ease on Google. I heard this website is actually used for advertising artists and all, but I think this would be a non-controversial use. GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 04:56, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

@GustavoCza: no Declined. It looks to me that you have two reliable sources for the information, but prefer tohave the data combined in one unreliable one? why not us the reliable ones instead? --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

I want to link to the personal website of Marijan Smetko from the Wikipedia page about Orbital elements: [1]. Specifically, I want to link to their project demonstrating keplerian orbit elements and how they affect the orbits themselves. InCogNiTo124 (talk) 21:06, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

@InCogNiTo124 do you want to use it as a reference, or add it to the linkfarm already there in the external links section? Dirk Beetstra T C 03:51, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
I want to add it to the external links section because I think it's a great addition. InCogNiTo124 (talk) 14:25, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
@InCogNiTo124 as said, there is already quite a linkfarm there, I guess it is better to take it to the local talkpage and discuss how to cleanup the linkfarm and which links should be included. If that discussion gives consensus for adding the link then please ask for whitelisting here. Dirk Beetstra T C 04:12, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

kickstarter.com

The Kickstarter campaign for This War of Mine: The Board Game is of encyclopedic relevance (significant reliable-source coverage), and the campaign page is the only place where I've been able to verify the total amount raised and the date that units began to ship, both of which are important details for the article. I am requesting whitelisting of the campaign page and its subpages (hence the /.*). The Kickstarter has concluded and indeed all remaining units were sold off last year to benefit the civilians of Ukraine, so this link could not be used for covert advertising. Thank you. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 22:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

@Tamzin: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. The subpages should work like this, otherwise let us know. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:53, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

@Beetstra: Hmm, still flags (exact markup used shown below). I think a .* is necessary at the end. Or better yet \w*.

@Tamzin that workup should and does work. Must be s.t. else in the edit. Dirk Beetstra T C 04:09, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
@Beetstra: Ah, I'd known when proposing this that it wouldn't whitelist the base URL without trailing slash, which would be fine because I could include a trailing slash and it would go to the same place... And then I just spaced out about that. So,  resolved, thanks so much for your help. (However, I can't for the life of me figure out why your edit to your sandbox didn't get blocked. See here for proof that it's that exact URL that was getting blocked for me. But that's beyond the immediate concern here at least. :)) -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 16:36, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
@Tamzin The problem was the trailing / which you did not have on one of the links. My script just takes the link and turns it into a regex to save it in the list. Anything less than that will not work. I am not sure why my edit worked and yours didn’t, maybe some admin bypass of blacklist (which is annoying, then I can’t test …). Dirk Beetstra T C 04:27, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
@Beetstra: Okay, I've gotten to the bottom of it. Very strange. Nothing to do with rights. (I'm an admin too and the only group that's blacklist-exempt is bots.) It's about the ref structure I used. When a page has <ref>s but no <references />, MediaWiki makes a reflist automatically, and spam links in that reflist get caught by the blacklist. However, the URL in question was in a custom group I'd used, <ref group=NI>, and MediaWiki doesn't make reflists for custom groups. You can see this behavior in the sandbox edit you made. So, it seems, because the link never gets parsed, it never trips the blacklist. You can verify this by going to your sandbox and either removing group=NI on the slashless URL or adding <references group=NI /> to the end of the page. Either will trip the blacklist.
Not sure if this counts as a bug or if it's intended behavior. Since the blacklist still trips as soon as the markup is parsed, I don't think there's any security issue, but it's a bit strange. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 05:29, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
@Tamzin do you need the link without trailing / ? If so I (or you) can remove the trailing \/ from the regex, it won’t change anything further for kickstarter. Dirk Beetstra T C 04:14, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
No, it's all good now; I was just getting to the bottom of why you didn't trip the blacklist. Thanks again. :) -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 05:09, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Roblox.com (or the sublinks below)

  1. Explain why the site should be whitelisted: Hi! I am writing an article on a very popular and old Roblox game and am citing information from the official Roblox website. Specifically, I am referencing the developer information, game creation dates, favorite counts, and visit counts, as well as official game titles.
  2. Explain which articles would benefit from the addition of the link. The article I am writing is Draft:Doomspire Brickbattle, but I definitely think this whitelist will help articles such as List of Roblox games and the articles for the games mentioned on it.
  3. Provide the specific link to the page you're requesting be added. Roblox.com

Goldenesbrett.guru

Used at Goldenes Brett.

Rationale: The winner of the 2023 award and the 2023 lifetime award are only mentioned on their home page.... They haven't updated their 2023 award page or their list of past winners to include the 2023 awards yet. So it seems like it would require an exception be made for the entire domain. infowars.com

I want to whitelist the homepage only, in order for using it as a live link in URl section of the article Infowars. If other hate sites like The Daily Stormer have a live link in their infobox, then it makes sense for this site to have a URL allowed only in the infobox on the article InfoWars. aeschylus (talk) 17:05, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

@Aeschylus: per MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist/Common_requests#The_official_homepage_of_the_subject_of_a_page, we would need an about-page or a full url (including an index.htm) of the index page. www.otrcat.com/p/mr-chameleon

I am trying to create a new article about a radio detective program that aired during the 1940s-50s called Mr. Chameleon. There are not many secondary sources out there with general information about the series; one of the few is OTRCAT.com (Old Time Radio Catalog).

The entire domain is blacklisted, apparently because it was "spammed by a large sockfarm." See [2]. I've seen nothing that insinuates that the show information pages are (or the domain itself is) unreliable.

So I would ask that this page be unblocked. It might be worth asking if the entire OTRCAT.com domain should be removed from the blacklist. Thanks! MarritzN (talk) 17:18, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
