Streaming sites added by spam sockfarms[edit]

These come from two spam sock farms (on UFC 222 and Red Sparrow) that I just CU-blocked. I guess I could just do it myself, but I'm not really familiar with the spam blacklist. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 05:10, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

While trying to replace an external link with visitputinbay.com on Put-in-Bay, Ohio's wiki, I was confused when I was hit with a blacklist notice. It appears to be triggering the block based on the entry putinbay.com. The link I am trying to add directs users to Put-in-bay's chamber of commerce website, which includes information regarding transportation, local businesses, contact information, etc.

There was no reasons listed on the log as to why the link was blacklisted, but this site is not porn-related or aimed at spamming visitors. This leads me to believe I received the notice in error. Any help is appreciated.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gserrano0 (talkcontribs)

no Declined. I would suggest you ask your client why they're on the blacklist. I would also advise you to declare your paid advocacy as you did your paid edits. Kuru (talk) 01:14, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
NO CASH HAS BEEN EXCHANGED FOR THIS, BUT THANK YOU FOR THE REDIRECTION *note: I added 'paid' acknowledgement on my profile for this company because I was unclear of how to declare my advocacy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gserrano0 (talkcontribs) 02:55, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gserrano0: please read the guide at WP:COI, and ‘’strictly’’ follow it. Whether declared or not, you still have a conflict of interest, and any concerns regarding promotional edits or spamming may result in blocks and/or blacklisting. —Dirk Beetstra T C 03:28, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AliExpress.com is a e-commerce platform and website. It has been in business for more than seven years and serve buyers and sellers worldwide. It's crucial to have the business' official website link on the wikipedia page. Without this link this wikipedia entry shows a lack of accuracy for this website.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Chiaychang (talkcontribs) 09:59, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Library of Economics and Liberty is a valuable library of scientific texts. For instance it contains the complete original text of Thomas Robert Malthus' famous book An Essay on the Principle of Population (1826), referenced on page Malthusian trap. The reason given for blacklisting a whole batch of sites, including this library, was: "All appear to have been added by Vipul, Riceissa or other paid surrogates of Vipul, most are selling legal services related to immigration, and the overall conclusion is SEO. All valid content can be drawn from more authoritative sources such as law books, pages in law faculty websites, official government sources etc." It may well be that all the other pages in that batch are selling legal services, but this particular library definitely does not. On the contrary, this is exactly a "more authoritative source() such as law books..." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Orbilin (talkcontribs)

Rejected, bad faith request. User's first edit this year, fifth edit in total. --Guy (Help!) 13:13, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is a clear link between the editors who added this and the site. The other edits were made either being paid, or as plain SEO. Seen that combination, the situation is clear: these edits were done to do the material, including econlib. As for most information there are alternatives, firmly no Declined. --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:32, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Five Books is a great blog that produces interviews in which notable persons suggest five books to read on their field. I'm a big fan of the site, but completely unaffiliated, and was trying to create a page for them when I noticed the blacklisting, which was made before the domain got its current use, and which has no reason listed. Cheers.— Preceding unsigned comment added by BurnAfterReading (talkcontribs)

@BurnAfterReading: no Declined, it is a blog, and sice it is blacklisted it was likely spammed. --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:15, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The bot noted it already .. 'Stage3news' suggests the whole domain, so poking here to see what that report says, we might blanket the top domain. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:50, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I wasn't sure if a bot would have picked it up or I needed to do it manually. If the bot already spotted it that's reassuring. Only thing I've seen from that domain has been refspam or linkspam. Cheers. -- Begoon 12:02, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Begoon: No, there is no close monitoring on Category:Open Local COIBot Reports .. but if the bot noticed and someone reports that generally means that something needs to be done.

Other links in deleted articles, i think, and it's fake news. We should have a low bar to blacklisting fake news sites. Guy (Help!) 19:28, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

change.org[edit]

Could someone explain why change.org is blacklisted? I searched for it in the archive and didn’t find it. deisenbe (talk) 13:17, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Deisenbe: petition sites are blacklisted mainly due to WP:SOAPBOX violations and the accompanying spam (‘click [here] to save the ...’). There is hardly any use to link to the petitions itself barring rare exceptions (which can be whitelisted). It is only worth linking to if secondary sources describe the result and impact, making the primary source unneeded. —Dirk Beetstra T C 14:31, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

privatestudentloans.guru[edit]

PrivateStudentLoans.guru is the only advertisement-free web site to list all private student loan programs. It is also the only web site to tell students why they shouldn't borrow private student loans. It is being blocked by a blanket regular expression that is blocking all domains in the .guru top level domain, without any justification. (\b[_\-0-9a-z]+\.guru\b) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.74.66.214 (talk) 01:24, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

no Declined,  Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain. The .guru tld is totally blocked because, next to some good material, there is much, much more utter rubbish there that got spammed, and material that has no place on wikipedia in the first place. Path of least disruption. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:13, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Self-published source by a guy called Jacek Kulig (a football fans) which the personal blog was spammed in footballer articles as citation. Matthew_hk tc 11:06, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Matthew hk: I only see spamming in 2014, recently it is seemingly mainly used by regulars. I do not see any current problems that warrant blacklisting. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:40, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

justjared.com[edit]

Not a spam website nor a redirection website. It is a news website that includes interviews.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Vargo2 (talkcontribs)

@Vargo2: no Declined,  Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain. As far as I recall, the material tended to be unreliable and mis/abused to a scale that it needed to be controlled. --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:32, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
