Biography

[edit]

Raghubir Singh was born on 29 March 1970, in Sultanwind village, Pati Mansoor, Amritsar, Punjab. He is the son of Bachan Singh and Savinder Kaur and has two daughters and a son. His journey of service began in 1989 when he was admitted as an akhand pathi. He became a granthi in 1982 and served in various locations from 1992 to 1995. In 1995, he started his service as one of the Panj Pyare at the Akal Takht and continued in that role until 21 April 2014.[6]

On 21 April 2014, Raghubir Singh took on the seva at Harmandir Sahib. Following the passing of Jathedar Mall Singh of Takht Keshgarh Sahib, he assumed the role of acting Jathedar, while also serving as a Granthi at Harmandir Sahib.[7]

On 16 June 2023, Jathedar Harpreet Singh resigned from his position,[8] shortly after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee appointed Raghubir Singh as the successive Jathedar of the Akal Takht. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee organized an inauguration ceremony on 22 June 2023 at the Akal Takht where he formally took charge as the Jathedar.[9][10]
