Flag of Karnataka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As of 30 October 2024, there is no official flag for the state of Karnataka in India.[1] For several decades, Kannada activists have used a traditional red-and-yellow flag.[2] However, in 2017, the Siddaramaiah government set up a committee to recommend a new flag design.[2] A flag was proposed for the state in 2018 but was not formally adopted.[2]

The Government of Karnataka can be represented by a banner that depicts the emblem of the state on a white background.

Proposition from 2018 by the Government of Karnataka

[edit]

The Government of Karnataka proposed a design for the Flag of Karnataka in 2018 based on the traditional yellow-red Kannada bicolour. The new tricolour flag with the central white band and emblem, was designed to distance itself from regional political parties and emulate the structure of the Indian Tricolour. In August 2019, the Government of Karnataka announced it was no longer officially pursuing the proposal for a separate state flag.
