English: Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell testified on the economy and monetary policy before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. He said the U.S. economy is “healthy” and the job market remains strong. Chair Powell warned lawmakers, however, of slower economic growth stating, “Financial markets became more volatile toward year-end, and financial conditions are now less supportive of growth than they were earlier last year.” Other topics addressed included labor force participation rates, the U.S. debt limit, student loan debt, and the Federal Reserve’s actions involving bank mergers.
