Fangfang Cao is a Chinese archaeologist and museologist.

Education

Fangfang Cao (Chinese: 曹芳芳) was born in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China[when?]. She completed her bachelor's degree in Archaeology and Museology at the Department of Archaeology and Museology, School of History and Culture, Henan University, in June 2011. She then pursued her master's degree in Archaeology and Museology at the School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University, graduating in July 2014. Cao earned her Ph.D. in Archaeology from Peking University in June 2022.

Career

From October 2014 to August 2018, Cao worked at the Guangdong Provincial Museum. She was involved in collection acquisition and management, cultural relics research, exhibition planning, catalog editing, and academic management. She achieved the intermediate professional title of Cultural Relics and Museum Specialist.

Cao participated in archaeological excavations at several significant sites, including the Xiawangyin prehistoric site (下王尹史前遗址), Zhougong Temple (周公庙), and Zhouyuan site (周原遗址). She also contributed to the research and organization of archaeological data and artifacts from the Taicheng Qin and Han Dynasty cemetery (邰城秦汉墓地), Yejiashan Zeng State cemetery in Suizhou (随州叶家山曾国墓地), and the Rui State cemetery at Liujiawa in Chengcheng (澄城刘家洼芮国墓地).

  • Design history: Focused on Chinese design history and comparative studies between Chinese and international design histories.
  • Material culture: Specialized in the study of jade artifacts, bronzes, ivory artifacts, and various miscellaneous cultural relics.
  • Museology: Interested in museum history, curatorial practices, exhibition design, museum communication, and management.
  • Archaeology (Prehistory to Han Dynasty): Researching shapes, patterns, and imagery in painted pottery, jade artifacts, and bronzes.
