History[edit]

Revenue Service and First Retirement (1925-1961)[edit]

Sumter & Choctaw 103 is a 2-6-2 prairie locomotive built on November 1925 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works.

First Excursion Service (1961-1975)[edit]

The locomotive was sold to Middletown New Jersey 1961 until 1966, and was sold to the Valley Railroad 1971 until 1975.

Second Retirement (1975-2023)[edit]

Valley Railroad 97 had to replace 103, In 1985 the locomotive was on display in Essex, Conn. In 2009 the locomotive was loaded on a truck and was moved to place on static display.[1][2][3][4] In February 2020 the locomotive was evaluated at the Naugatuck's shop in Thomaston, Conn., which revealed it was in good condition and a candidate worthy of restoration.

Second Restoration (2023-present)[edit]

On October 3 2023 they announced the locomotive 103 into operating condition.[5][6][7]
