ReduxOS is an upcoming Linux distribution currently under development, with an anticipated release in the near future. It aims to provide users with a high degree of customization and choice, drawing inspiration from popular distributions such as Debian, Arch Linux, and Gentoo. ReduxOS caters to a diverse user base, including enterprises, cybersecurity enthusiasts, and Linux enthusiasts.

Overview[edit]

ReduxOS intends to offer users the freedom to tailor their operating system experience according to their preferences. It plans to provide flexibility during the installation process, allowing users to choose between using a graphical installer like Calamares or opting for a manual configuration approach akin to Gentoo Linux.

Planned Features[edit]

  • Customization: ReduxOS aims to empower users to customize every aspect of their operating system, from the choice of desktop environment to the selection of software packages.
  • Supported GUIs: ReduxOS plans to support a wide range of desktop environments and window managers, including Hyprland, Xfce, GNOME, KDE Plasma, Cinnamon, LXDE, LXQt, Sway, and i3.
  • Package Management: The distribution plans to implement a package manager drawing inspiration from Gentoo's Portage and Arch Linux's Pacman, providing users with a rich set of options for managing software installations and updates.
  • Kernel Customization: ReduxOS intends to support kernel customization, allowing users to integrate their own kernel into the system, thus providing a high level of control over system performance and functionality.
